I don't think you understand!  Like countless other  sites, this is a users helping users forum.  It is hosted and moderated by Dell as a courtesey to their customers.  Occasionally those Dell moderators will try to help.  There are no active Dell techs assigned to these forums.

of course DCF is not a waste of time for the vast majority of users. hundreds, if not thousands of people get useful info and answers to their problems here every day.
good luck with your problem.

I see his point although he might have said it in a less 'steamed' fashion.  This forum is helpful but no user has any authorized responsibility for his or her advice.  Those that do- Dell phone techs- are often ill prepared and ill-informed. Not only does it take forever to get to them, but they invariably seem to be caught off guard by specific questions such as those related to bios upgrades. It may be that Dell, to protect its profit margin, cannot  hire highly trained tech staff or that the computer is simply too complex and the range that Dell offers too wide to keep a tech staff adequately informed.

So...we have to rely on each other and keep our fingers crossed.  I just wonder if is worth the effort and that, instead of wasting my time,  shouldn't I just dump the underperfoming computer and buy an new one. Maybe that is the real reason that behind Dell's incompentence---a plot to get owners to buy again? (No, can't be, can it?)

The other night I grabbed the BIOS from the Download link. When I launched the EXE file I got an error ouput file wrong size then it said 0 bytes. I downloaded it more than once and tried it m ore than once. What might have been the problem is they were probably doing maintenance or maybe some kind of backup or restore from the server and I just happened to get this file when this was going on. That is the only thing I can deduce at this point. I was able to get an uncorrupted file from the FTP link. SO if the file works ok from the download link now then it must have been what I said above. The Loud Beep is a System beep when you strike the wrong key or sometimes when you reboot before you see the windows splash screen you here a system beep. I ahve a problem with the loudness of that beep. Its so ear piercing that the speakers are going to blow out one of these days. I know on my Dell C840 I was able to adjust that system beep and it is in my opinion there should be a setting in the Bios to either turn it off or lower the volume. Thats would not be a difficult feature to write into the Bios (CMOS).

These major problems seem like minor inconveniences to me. Maybe I am missing something?

A loud beep during boot.
Most PC's do this anyway.

A corrupted file from a download.
This is not a rare occurrence from any source.
