Please explain a little better. Too short? You installing a PCI card into a PCI slot?

Many thanks for the reply. When placing the ethernet card into the PCI slot, the front of the card, ie where the socket is for the lead, ends up being recessed into the computer by an inch or so. I thought that ethernet cards were a standard length so they would fit onto all motherboards. Perhaps I am wrong ? I wonder whether I need a special ethernet card for this particular Dell Dimension or perhaps I am doing something wrong. Not sure what though. The ethernet card is just too short in length to be properly placed in the slot on the motherboard and be properly mounted on the case to receive the ethernet lead. Any advice would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Stephen

You probably have a PCI Express card rather than a PCI card. Have a look at this article.
