So does this mean we can't play audio from the M1330 if we have Windows XP installed?

August 9th, 2007 23:00

Have you actually tried it out on the M1330, or are you just guessing? I can't try anything because I haven't got my order yet... Someone should really tell SigmaTel about this. Can you contact them and let them know by any chance?

So far, yes, no audio in Win XP on M1330.
I am still waiting and searching for XP version dirver of this SigmaTel STAC9228 HD audio codec.
Anybody can help?

I got my M1330 received on Aug 1. I brought a brand new 160GB SATA HDD to install the XP pro.
Actually I have got it done and I am using the XP right now writing this post.
Everything goes pretty good except no XP dirver for this HD audio CODEC STAC9288.

However, some DELL XP utility still cannot be installed on M1330.
1. XP version Dell QuestSet cannot be installed to M1330
2. XP verison Dell Wi-Fi Catcher Network Locator cannot be installed to M1330
3. XP version Security-Broadcom-Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 cannot be installed to M1330
(However, separated XP figerprint scanner driver from UPEK is installed ok)

May be DELL can help to release those utility to be able to recognize this new model.

Why did you buy a new SATA HD for installing Windows XP pro?

And, we really need to call Dell and push these issues through. Just sitting and waiting for them will not help.

As I have not received my laptop order yet, I can't do much with technical support.
Why don't you call them or e-mail them about this problem and get their opinions, since you have a service tag. Please do so quickly and reply here if there's any development.

I tried to install XP onto XPS M1330 by myself recently, most are done but still have a few issues.
See my new post and hopefuly some smart guys can help to resolve the remaining issues shortly.

Greetings,

I too ran ito the same issue. I called tech. support and once I discussed the issue with them they explained this is designed to be a Vista only PC and currently there is no XP Driver for the Sigmatel 9228. I have tried the driver from other XPS Models but none seem to be the same chip.

They directed me to enter a post as the forums are monitored and if enough posts are noted they will get an XP Driver developed. I was hoping to use this laptop in our Enterprise to direct our upper exec.'s away from Sony Vaio's as the latitude 4xx series does not even come close. Everybody that wants this driver for Windows XP please post a response or it probably will not happen.

Installed Windows XP SP2 on my Dell XPS M1330 (had to slipstream the hdd driver into the XP install disc), everything is working fine except the audio. No drivers available. Please Dell, push Intel and Sigmatel to release drivers for XP!

Hi,

I've stumbled across a solution that has worked for me.

Source: http://tech.yahoo.com/qa/20070818223430AAC69Dx

I tells you to install the R153908.EXE driver:
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R153908&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=205136

With it, I was able to get the audio working fine with WinXP Pro on my M1330. :)

I should point out though, before I installed the drivers I had 2x "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" in Device Manager.
I now still have 1 not installed but the other is "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC". So I wouldn't say it's installed properly but it 'works' and hopefully Dell will release some proper drivers soon.

I tried the Vostro driver for audio no luck... this is so silly. Just provide the drivers pls Dell or post a working solution.

To expect no one wants / needs to use XP is a joke.

Pls Help

I bought 2 1330's, one for my wife and another for software development. We cannot run Vista because we want to run Quicken and Quickbooks, and the horror stories about vista and QB are numerous, too many to take a chance. Since I am stuck with XP for some time, I too want the HD audio driver for XP. Dell, please make this happen.
