lost connection on primary comp from tm 2300 router

Question

I have a westell wirespeed modem connected to a tm 2300 which in turn has a xps sec gen(primary) connected from the ethernet to the lan connection on the router and also have a wireless connection from the dell 4600(secondary)....the connectivity to the internet was perfect for the first week of operation for both desktops...then the xps dropped connectivity to the net but the wireless connection still works fine for the 4600...control utility on the xps can`t find a connection to the router.. .i`ve checked the firewall and security settings, even  bypassing the 2300 for a direct connection from the modem to the ethernet card on the xps ,the xps still doesn`t recognize connection..the ethernet card shows it has a link,diag on the card passed...all lights on both modem and router are  green and steady...i`ve reset both units,ran virus detection,it was clean and found no intrusions or hacks ...seems strange they would both work fine then the primary would drop out...i have`nt tried ping yet tho will do that when i get back home .....all suggestions appreciated...

If the internet connection on the Dimension 4600 still works normally, the wireless router and wireless adapter within the Dimension 4600 are working normally. You should concentrate your troubleshooting efforts on the Dimension XPS system.

Try a different patch cable between the XPS and the router's LAN port. Also, try a different LAN port.

On the XPS system can you access the Dimension 4600 system (assuming file sharing is enabled on both systems)?

Were there any software or hardware changes to the XPS system before the problems began? Ensure your virus scanning software is up-to-date, and perform a full system scan.

Also, you may need to run an excess software removal tool on your system such as AdAware or SpyBot. If you cannot download directly to the XPS, enable file sharing on both systems, share a folder on the Dimension 4600 system, and download the above program(s) to the Dimension 4600. Copy the setup files over to the XPS system, and execute them to begin installation.

for what its worth i uninstalled Mcafee 6.0 security suite and the connection returned,it had worked fine for the week i ran it ,but there must be bugz in it still..don`t know if i want to reinstall it either till i check with the mac site...also have norton system works pro and had nothing but trouble with it also..shame to spend good money on bad but seems i did.....thankx for you help!.......
