Really?

How though?

When i disconnect the controller, there is no problem at all so how can the motherboard be damaged?

Also, i just tried that controller on my wife's laptop.  After like 2-3 mins, the powersurge came on that also.  So should i assume that the controller is the cause of the problem and should i just get another one?

Thanks for your help....

I suspect you're going to find that the mainboard has been damaged.

It's possible - it's also possible the controller draws too much power for the notebook. Have you tried attaching it to a powered USB hub?

I dont have a powered usb hub.  Also, with a laptop such as inspiron 9100, wouldn't it very weird carrying around an hub port?
