You cannot download Office. It has to be installed from disks. Office Basic Edition (which does not have PowerPoint) comes with new computers and is not available retail and cannot be installed on any other computer. You'll have to give more details.

Web Updates should work then. If not, there are some fixes for this, but I'd try a Repair from the Help menu or just a reinstallation. Perhaps the installation is corrupted. You activated your copy when asked, right? This is necessary to get the updates. There are no special questions or requirements to activate.

actually the one I have says MS office 2003 students and teacher edition.
Word, excel, powerpoint and outlook.
