I am new here, and I hope someone can help. I own a Dell computer and run Windows XP. For some reason, my IE7 won't load properly. I double-click to open it, and I get this dialog box that is titled iexplore.exe -- Application Error. In the box, it says
Instruction at "0x77c47740" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program
Then it closes IE and gives me this message about reporting the problem to Microsoft.
So anyway, I ran deep scans with Ad-Aware, Norton Internet Security, and Spyware Doctor. Nothing has worked. I am using Firefox, but I want IE to work and to get rid of any malware that I have. The forums at Microsoft.com were not too helpful, but they pointed me to Hijack This!
So I went to the Trend Micro site and downloaded Hijack This. When I did a run, here is the log that I got:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 10:25:11 PM, on 12/11/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574) Boot mode: Normal
1)Save it to the desktop 2) Rt Click->>Extract all->.Extract it to your Desktop 3) Double Click Killbox.exe to run it 4)Select " Delete on Reboot", and then select "All files". 5) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wowfx.dll
6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose " Paste from Clipboard". 7) Click the red-and-white " Delete File" button. Click " Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
2. Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wowfx.dll
Close all other open windows except Hijackthis and Select " Fix checked"
Close Hijackthis ->> Reboot your PC ->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hijackthis log
Thanks! I am using IE7 now as I post this. Here is my latest HJT log:

Glad to hear it, we still have a troublesome entry. Let's do this
Please download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop Close any open browsers. Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts. When it's finished it will produce a log. Post the contents of the C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply. Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause the program to freeze/hang.
Save it to your Desktop Rt Click->> Extract All->>Extract it to your desktop Open the Regsearch folder Double Click RegSearch and Run Copy and paste the following into the top box
wowfx.dll
Then O.K. Let the program run. When it is finished the results will open in notepad Copy and paste the results as a reply to this thread
Go HERE and download this tool Save it to your Desktop Double click it to unzip it. Then double click querySVC.cmd When its done it will produce a log named subs.txt in the querysvc folder Copy and paste that as a reply to this thread.

I wanted to thank you again for all the time you took in helping me. However, a day later I couldn't access the Internet at all, and the Windows system was malfunctioning (loading icons really slowly, not giving me the music, etc.) I ended up calling Dell Tech support and had to reset the computer to its original (as purchased) condition. Fortunately, I had a fair amount of data backed up before doing so. I guess there was still some malware on the system that didn't go away.

Glad to hear it, we still have a troublesome entry. Let's do this
Please download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the contents of the C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.
