Vostro 1400 Erratic Keyboard and mouse

Question

OK, I've had my Vostro since August. I've been very happy with it up until today. I was picking my laptop up with the power plugged in and managed to knock a half a glass of water onto the floor and a good amount of it onto my notebook. I immediately turned the computer off and tried to dry it out with a towel and a hairdryer on low. Figuring that the keyboard is supposedly 'spill-proof,' I turned it back on and could not log on. So I come to the dell support website and it tells me to 'take out the battery for 1 minute, replace it, put the cord back in, and then turn the computer on.' OK, so that allows the keyboard to work temporarily, however, it keeps ceasing up. Once it ceases, I can get it to work again by pressing the multimedia keys, but then these random keystrokes pop up on the screen and whatever I type is deleted automatically. Also, the help contents of Firefox and Vista keep popping up and stuff keeps getting highlighted on my browser. Basically, I cannot type anything long on my computer, because A.) the keyboard will not respond or B.) it responds but acts erratically. Anybody have any suggestions?

I don't know if the keyboard is sealed on the machine or not but it sounds like something happened to the keyboard.  For now, make sure the inside of the laptop is dry and use an external keyboard.  You can order a new keyboard by calling Dell Spare Parts at 800-357-3355.  They're usually not expensive and easy to replace.
