Attach an external monitor. If it is an cutoff switch problem, when the notebook goes dark, the external display will as well. If that happens, it could be the switch, or it could be a mainboard problem.
If the external monitor stays on when the internal cuts off, it is a display issue.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I switched the laptop off, closed the lid, and left it for a while. I then connected it to my external monitor.
When I started the computer again, the external monitor came on, but the laptop one didn't. Looking at graphics properties, my laptop was not acknowledging the laptop monitor.... until I flicked on the palm rest a couple of times.
What does this mean - and what would I be looking at financially to deal with the problem?
