Thanks, James. At least I know there's one other person on the board using this card.

My A/V system's not top end but, respectable. I'm looking to playback DVD's and Blu-Ray's, and was hoping, once a SW solution becomes available, that I could take advantage of the newer audio codecs being used...

Is it me, or are there very few ExpressCard options available at present time? Even the X-Fi appears to based on older Audigy tech?

Creative had an issue with an old card that kind of faltered their reputation but this new one works wonders.
 
I'd say go ahead and use it if you have the capability, no sense in letting have a possible bottleneck when you don't need to

Personally I have not noticed any real difference. I think you would only seeif if you had a very high priced/high end set of speakers

Is there a reason why this sound card wouldn't work in an XPS M1530?

I can't think of any reasons off the top of my head but that's not to say that there isn't something that would cause it, software or hardware.
