Some people have more demanding requirements which influence their choice of monitor, eg. gaming or graphics work. If you just surf the net and read email it won't be so important.
I had read all of your previous posts (and others) and all the links, I was still left with questions about how other monitors might compare with my current monitors. It is probably unrealistic to expect this comparison, what with all the many variables and opinions.
I think I might spring for the 24" and not take a chance that the 22" tn screens will be inadequate.
The new monitors are better built and have the more recently adapted technologies and better material. You should expect them to look better as well. However, you can never compare the 2208WFP to the 2407WFP-HC in terms of either quality or price. The decision is up to you. Don't forget the 7-day exchange policy if you are planning to buy a Dell monitor. Give it a try!

Total Satisfaction Policy
That doesn’t seem like TOTAL satisfaction, :smileyvery-happy: but I guess it is reasonable if I just change my mind. You seem to have a good handle on these subjects. So I have a few other questions if you don't mind. The Dell premier site I shop at has ONLY the following options for Graphic cards and monitors:
Video Cards
128MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO
256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT [ Add $100.00 ]
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS [ Add $200.00 ]
Monitors
20 inch E207WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel [ Add $240.00 ]
20 inch UltraSharp™ 2007WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel [ Add $390.00 ]
22 inch UltraSharp™ 2208WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel [ Add $330.00 ]
24 inch UltraSharp™ 2407FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel [ Add $650.00 ]
Dell 19 inch UltraSharp™ 1908WFP Flat Panel, Adjustable Stand [ Add $210.00 ]
I would prefer a 22” monitor, but I have read about some people having problems with the TN screens, so I am looking at the UltraSharp 2407FPW 24-inch Widescreen Digital Flat Panel with a S-PVA screen.
ChrisM said that this monitor is 2407WFP = Samsung S-PVA LTM240M2, AUO M240UW01. I am assuming that it won’t have the banding/text problems associated with the earlier BenQ models.
I have had a minor (yet irresolvable) problem with an ATI card I currently have, so I leaned toward the 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS.
I work with Office suites programs, Internet, some graphics/video work, and minor games playing. My current “thinking” build looks like this:
XPS 420;Intel® CoreTM2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
Windows VistaTM Home Premium
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs
500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
Dell Media Card Reader included in Dell Bluetooth Package
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
56K PCI Data Fax Modem
Dell 19 in 1 Media Reader with Bluetooth
24 inch UltraSharpTM 2407FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
Dell A525 30 Watt 2.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer
Dell USB Keyboard
Mouse included in Dell Bluetooth Package
McAfee SecurityCenter 15-months
4Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor,24x7 Phone Support
My question(s) is (are): Will the UltraSharp 2407WFP and the 256MB nVidia 8600 GTS be a good match.?
AND, and further suggestions?
I wasn't aware of anyone actually getting an AUO panel in a 2407WFP. As far as I know the new 2407WFP-HC only uses Samsung S-PVA panels.
Your only concern with graphics cards would be games performance at high resolutions. I'm not too familiar with current graphics cards but I believe the 8600GTS would be pretty good.
When I seen this I thought the 2407WFP was a Samsung S-PVA (with a bunch of number after it). BUT, after your response I realized that the comma meant there were two types of panels, a Samsung S-PVA AND an AUO, type unknown.
From what little I read since then, AUO is owned by BenQ and may be an inferior panel?
'As of June 2006, the Dell 1907FP can be shipped with one of three
different display panels, an AOU M190EN04, a LG-Phillips LM190E03, or a
Samsung LTM190EX. Only the Samsung panel performs up to the specifications,
so you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting a good performing monitor, which is
why the user reviews vary from VERY BAD to VERY GOOD. It’s a roll of the
dice
I am not a gambler AT ALL! I am going to re-think my moniter and computer research and decisions.:smileymad:
Both the 2407WFP and the 2407WFP-HC have Samsung S-PVA panels. The panel inside the 2407WFP-HC is a different model from the one in the 2407WFP. Does that make sense for you, In Kansas?
I doubt the accuracy of that information even though it is from Chris. He also made a mistake when mentioning the panel modules being used in the 2407WFP-HC.
By the way, Samsung has made a lot of inferior panels, too.

see my post here. Yes the 22" are TN.

I would choose a PVA over a TN panel.
