I was also told on that forum that 20" widescreen is probably the max that the Radeon Mobile X300 would handle. Do you concur, or do you think the X300 could handle a 22", as that is the size I'd really prefer.

Thanks again; help much appreciated!

It really depends on the monitor, some of the larger ones require dual link DVI to reach thier max resolution. One way to find out is test it on a monitor, it is portable:)

I have an Inspiron 6000 w/ATI Mobility Radeon X300, and am considering adding a 19" or 22" flat panel monitor. Checking the display properties, max supported resolution is 1280X800. How would I go about enabling higher resolution(s) to support a higher resolution monitor? Thanks for the help. ~Ed

The LCD's native resolution is 1280X800, as long as that is the only monitor that is as high as the slider will go. If you connect another monitor you will have a separate ICON in display properties for that monitor, running extended desktop or the external monitor only you should be able to adjust the resolution to what ever the monitor can handle. If you run in clone mode you will only be able to go to the lower of the two monitors resolutions.

Jimmy-

Thank you for the reply. What you said confirmed what I had been told on another (non-Dell-specific) forum; that is, that when an external monitor is connected, the higher resolutions become available. I was also told on that forum that 20" widescreen is probably the max that the Radeon Mobile X300 would handle. Do you concur, or do you think the X300 could handle a 22", as that is the size I'd really prefer.

Page 95 of the I6000 manual (appendix) states 1920 x 1200 at 16.7 million colors is maximum resolution for WUXGA and 1680 x 1050 at 16.7 million colors for WXSGA+. Is that applicable here? The 22" WS models are 1680 X 1050.

Thanks.
