The backlight alone won't produce a diagnostic error - the panel is bad (or the system board is, but if you can get an image on an external display, the board is fine).
I understand that the backlight will not produce an error. I think that I may have failed to explain that I still get an image on the panel but no back light. Honestly, it sounds like a driver error, even though you don't necessarily need a driver for the panel. I want to know why it gives me an error in pre-boot test even when I can still see the image on the screen. You see, it tells me that no LCD is detected, but it still shows the image. I don't think I'm quite ready to say that the panel itself is bad. Especially when I have read about people replacing panels and still having a problem. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this whole issue. Thats all.
You've got one of two faulty parts: the panel or the system board. If an external monitor shows a good image, it implicates the panel (but bear in mind that the signal to the panel and power to the inverter passes through the system board, independent of the external display, so the mainboard may still be bad.
I recently had the DC jack repair performed on the system. After a couple months, the problem occurred again, and would not take a charge. Upon the last bit of charge, it went into standby. I turned the machine back on, and the display flashed, clicked faintly once and powered down for good.
Is this problem related to the one above?
Thank you (very frustrated, and don't want to get taken advantage by a computer repair outlet - initial DC repair cost $200!)
