Battery advice in XPS M1530 manual - keep it connected to mains -confused......

Question

Hi, maybe I am a bit old-fashioned, but I have been given to understand till now that it is better to charge and discharge batteries rather than keeping it connected to the mains. However, the M1530 that I bought comes with the following advice.   'Connect the computer to an electrical outlet when possible;battery life is largely determined by the number of times the battery is used and recharged'. In another place, it says that battery life isaround 300 recharges.   Does this mean that I should keep my laptop connected to the mains at all times (I use it at home mostly)? Won't this damage the battery? Any suggestions will be most appreciated.   Cheers

fwiw I use my laptop almost permantly connected to the mains without the battery installed. I can do this as I have a reliable and stable ac supply.

I store the battery in a cool place with arount 80% charge.

Many thanks bacillus and GM. I liked the suggestion of bacillus of detaching the battery when not required. Will the laptop recognize the battery OK when I connect it back on? Cheers

I have experienced no problems when reinstalling the battery and I sometimes have it uninstalled for months at a time.
