Here is an expresscard Linksys just came out with. Dropping connection may be because of the router. Do you have the latest firmware on your WRT300N. Some users have had better luck with third party firmware like dd-wrt.
I have used dd-wrt on a WRT54G in my home, but since I bought the WRT350N I have not used it. It does not support storage link. I have it loaded on a WRT54GS in my sisters home. I just put it on my ex-wifes WRT54G. I believe it is only compatible with WRT300N V1 which is version 1. Just so you know loading third party firmware voids your linksys warranty and can brick your router with an improper flash.
You might want to join the dd-wrt forum to get further assistance. I thought you said you router was v1.1 not v1 like mentioned in my previous post. v1.1 is not supported

Yeah... it flashed ok, and then accelerated the death of my router.. It was a couple of years old anyways, so it was WAYYYY out of warranty.
Just bought a D-Link Extreme N.... and the acompanying Express Card.. it's connectiing, I just need to shake out the kinks
