Thanks. The card properties doesn't have such option. The screen options indicate it is not zoomed, and the aspect ratio is locked at "Fill". It doesn't seem like a simple zoom, since it only stretches the 1920 axis and not the 1200 (though it does look squashed on the vertical)! I'll keep messing with it. Any other suggestions much appreciated.

Sounds like it's Zoomed In.
In the video card properties adjust it there. OR
Are there size adjustments on the monitor to adjust it to fit it.

Iv'e seen your problem solved here before, can't quit remember all the possible ways of doing so.

If you didn't do a fresh install with the new card, then did you use driver cleaner or whatever it is for removing ATI driver remnents before installing the new nvidia drivers?

Video card properties on horizontal span and have another monitor or tv out hooked up?

Maybe gpro remembers :)

Thank you, I did go through with Driver Cleaner Pro before the install as recommended by other on this site. The problem is still there with DVI. Interestingly, I switched to VGA connection and everything works fine at 1920x1200, and also the Display settings buttons are fully functional in VGA mode. Going back to DVI, the same problem exists. I am guessing it is an issue of compatibility with the card or the driver for the card. If anyone has other ideas, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot,

Yes, this has come up before but I don't recall the solution either. It may be a driver issue - try an older one, say v93.71. Sometimes new drivers don't play so well with older cards.

Thank you gpro and others.

After searching and researching for more info on the graphics card itself and the nvidia site, it turns out that the fx5500 card can only support up to 1600x1200 digital and 1920x1200 in analog mode. With nvidia cards, must upgrade to at least a 7300GT or 7600GS card to get 1920x1200 in digital mode. Here is a helpful selection module link from nvidia site:

http://www.nvidia.com/HelpMeChoose/index.aspx?qid=1

It may be worthwhile to do a similar search for ATI cards so that everyone would know what cards are really compatible at these resolutions.

Looks like the solution for me is to return the current fx5500 card and get a 7600GS or even better, a 7600GT card.

It would be good to hear your opinion on this as well. Thanks a lot,

aah, now I remember...

The nVidia 5xxx series had DVI transmitters which performed unreliably at high pixel clock rates, eg 1920x1200@60Hz. This resolution seems to be supported by the cards (it has been achieved under Linux, and using older drivers in Windows), but was disabled in later driver versions. You may have to go back to v45 drivers though.

A couple of other things to try:
In nVidia Control Panel > Display > Change flat panel scaling
- Check Use my display's built-in scaling.

In nVidia Control Panel > Display > Manage custom resolutions
- Uncheck Treat as HDTV.

Also, check the 2407WFP OSD > Dispay Settings > Display Info
What resolution does it give?

A 7600 or even a 6600 will work fine with the latest drivers, but I wouldn't spend too much on an AGP card for an old system.
