Remove 2 gigs of ram and see if it will boot into windows? u have a hardware compatibility issue somewhere..are all your drivers up to date for 64bit os

Unfortunately, I do that, and it finishes the white bar which is loading windows system files... then either resets or hangs, it goes no further :(
There's no way this could be a power supply problem right? I know the qx6850 requires more power, but pretty sure the 750watt supply with the XPS could handle it...
Removed 2gig and tried... gets to windows loading screen and resets. On the reset I again try to start windows normally and it freezes on the loading screen. In other words, same problem no fix.
This is starting to freak me a little, paid a bit for this CPU and it is supposed to work with the XPS 720!
Thanks for help so far, it is appreciated. Any other remedies?
Unfortunately safe mode is a no-go as well, have tried it and it runs through the black screen with all the files/ processes scrolling down in white text... and finishes scrolling, but seems like it is frozen, won't go any further!
Also just tried uninstalling all my RAM, and re-installing the original XPS 710 non-ECC RAM that came with it to no avail...
Thanks everyone for trying to help so far! I really don't want to give up, but may only have a very small return window (if any) on the CPU so am a bit desperate! Anything else you can think of to try?
sakor can u boot to safe mode? u could try this , but if it will not boot to windows refollow the steps to put automatic restart back the way it was.
go to control panel , system and maintenance , click system , click advanced system settings , look for start up and recovery click settings button ,locate and uncheck "automatically restart , click ok in the start up and recovery window , click ok on system properties , close system window .
remember from now on when a problem causes a BSOD or other problem u will have to manually reboot windows.
see if it will boot to windows.

Don't give up. I've been running the QX6850 on my 720 motherboard (upgraded form XPS700) ever since I got the new board, so it can be done.
I had some issues witht eh setup but they were related to having 4GB of memory in the system and having to disable some of the spread spectrum settings. These have been fixed with the A04 BIOS along with some major system instability with running my Corsair memory using the EPP profile.

Well, that didn't work either.

Well, I'm at my wits end. Don't get it, BIOS, etc recognises and it seems to be running, but Windows wants NOTHING to do with it, just resets or freezes. Can't even get the DVD to work and do a repair/ re-install.
At the moment I have the E6600 back in and am about to leave for NYE party (its 7pm here)... but I would really appreciate if there are any more ideas/ suggestions/ etc that people have they please post, because I'll be straight back into troubleshooting tomorrow morn.
Thank-you so much to those that have helped so far, you all have a great new year!
Power your system down, unplug it, hold your power button in for 20 seconds, remove the side cover and clear your cmos.
Touch your power supply, or a metal part inside your machine to remove any static in your body, also, I never do anything
like this on a carpeted surface(too much static)
On your motherboard, looking from the side, in the lower lefthand corner, just above the battery, there are two jumpers #20 and #22 in the diagram.
Remove the tiny little jumper from the password pin #22, and place it on the RTC jumper pin #20 for a few seconds,
then remove it from pin #20, and put it back on pin #22. Also make sure nothing is overclocked in ntune(especially the fsb), all of the spread spectrum settings are dis-abled,
and your memory is set to standard and not SLI/EPP. See if this corrects your issues.
You will also probably need to open device manager, and delete the old processor cores and restart.

Also note that at bottom of BSOD I get is following: ecache.sys - Address FFFFF98000B297E9 base at FFFFF98000B1B000 Datestamp 4549bcfb
Should not be driver incompatibility, been running 64bit for ages now... only change I have made is just installing this CPU.
Thanks

Now have A04... Also uninstalled E6600 cores in the hardware manager before shutting down and putting the QX6850 in.
It either gets to the windows loading screen and hangs... or resets. Sometimes the BSOD. Same deal if I insert the Vista CD and load from that.
Any other suggestions?
