Wow Liteon? That explains it. It's not really that great of a name, their products are pretty low-quality. I had a cd burned that was made by Liteon though, and never really had any problems. I'm glad they are being reasonable about trading in the AC adapters. I plan on calling them as soon as I get a chance. Is there any way I can get the new one before I send the old part back? I don't want to have to go a week or two without being able to charge it.

They send you a new adapter and then you send back the old one in the same box. If you dont return the old one after so many days they charge you for it.

I've been having the same trouble with my less than week old Vostro 1500. I tried to explain this to the tech guys, but they seem to think it proves it is not the adapter because it works with the battery missing :| They want me to send the whole system in for a new motherboard and they will test it with a different adapter. I'm working my way up with them and HOPING that they'll just send a new adapter. So much simpler for them and for me.

After trying my "old" adapter on my new Inspiron 1520 and seeing that the problem went away, I did try the flaky adapter that came with my new Inspiron 1520 on my "old" Inspiron 1720.  After running the 1720 on batteries for a while, it operated just fine on the flaky adapter.  So it may be that the Inspiron 1520 (and I guess the Vostro 1500) are more sensitive to the power adapter problem.

You are lucky. When I sent my Vostro in for the motherboard replacement, I sent the AC adapter with it and they supposedly tested it. When I got it back it had the same adapter and my laptop still did the touchpad jumpy thing. Mine is still working great with the new adapter though.

After 2+ hours on the phone and a long online chat, Dell has agreed to try a new AC adapter instead of requiring the whole system to be sent in. Hopefully this will work and save a lot of hassle.

OK guys, I just got the replacement AC Adapter in today. I got the battery down around 50% and then plugged in the old one... cursor jumps all over the place and clicks on its own. Plugged in the new one... PERFECT. Everything works great. I'm glad I was able to talk the rep into just trading out adapters with me. That saved me a lot of time and headache and Dell a lot of money! If you are having this problem take Dell up on the offer and try a new AC adapter, I bet that fixes the problem.

Thanks Bill for getting into this forum thread.
Odd but true:
I got my replacment "REV A04" today for my Vostro 1500, It is running great now.  It was usuable for the most part when charging with the AC Adaprter.  One of the REC techs sent me the new adapter and now it works fine.  I have no problems with the touchpad going nuts on me.
Thanks for taking the time!

My wife IM-ed me this morning here at work and said I got the package already! How cool is that - talk about fast. I can't wait to test it out - I'm sure everything will be fine with the A04 version.

I have the same problem with a Vostro 1500 with Rev A00 AC adapter.

I was getting intermittant random clicks, so I turned off "tap to click" only to get intermittant random cursor movements.

I didn't even associate it with the AC adapter (who would guess that it was a power issue), but after testing, it does indeed only occur when the batt is recharging.

Sounds like this is a widespread issue.

I'm just glad it was such a simple solution.  I love this laptop - I'm so glad I didn't have to send it back in to replace a motherboard and a touchpad like the tech originally wanted me to.  That would basically turn your brand new machine into a "refurb".
