XPS 420 Screeching Noise from Power Supply
All,
We hear your complaints and are investigating the issue thoroughly. We had thought that the issue was with the Western Digital and Hitachi hard disk drives but this is not so. We are working on a new power supply for the long term solution. At this time, getting a replacement power supply or system exchange will not correct the issue. When the new power supply is validated, I will let you know. Please be patient.
For now, I need your DCF username. This is the list of usernames I already have -

I also have the noise on my XPS420 - I thought it was the hard drive, but reading this thread makes me think it is the PSU.
Add me to your list please.

The new power supply to address the XPS 420 High Pitched Noise should be available from the manufacturer before April. Please be patient. Replacing the current power supply will not fix the issue.

It sounds like I have the same issue as well. There is a piercing screeching noise coming from my power supply the best that I can tell. I thought it was related to my graphics card, but now I think it is my power supply. Chris, please add me to the list as well. Thank you!

Hi All,
I have just registered to express my solidarity with other users being driven insane by the persistent whining emanating from the XPS 420s 425W PSU. I have had the PSU replaced by an engineer today but the problem persists.
Contacted Dells Customer Services team in India but they are unaware of the problem.
I did have a desktop with a GT8800 card and it was very quiet. Due to other technical issues I had a new desktop dispatched with an upgraded GTX8800 card but this brought the whining PSU with it!
I would be grateful if I could be kept informed of any remedial action to resolve this issue.

I have the same problem with the power supply. The noise coming from the power supply is very irritating.
Please add me to the list.
I have sent an email to the dutch customer support. I am waiting for the reply.
If I get the reply I will let you know.

I have read some of the posts and this noise is NOT a hum. It litterally could wake the whole house up!!!

Any updates here? I also have an XPS 420 with the 425W PSU, which replaced the original 375W PSU that shipped with my system by mistake. I wish I had stayed with the 375W. The new PSU not only whines/screeches, but also buzzes. It's definitely gotten worse over the last month.

I have just called the XPS Premium Support in the UK.
The new power supply will be available within 2 weeks.
Then I will be called for an appointment to replace the power supply. :smileyhappy:
