The battery should still charge even with the lower wattage power supply; it will simply take longer. If the battery isn't charging ( and that was the reason the old battery was replaced) something is wrong with the adapter, or the system board in the notebook.
I have a latitude C640, I have bought a new battery and pa9 power adapter.
the led indicator on the power supply is steady green when plugged in,
i have no lights on battery icon on the keyboard, in windows power state says online when ac adapter is plugged in, and in bios says idle, works fine with ac adapter alone or battery alone the only time i get a light on the battery icon on the keyboard is when the battery level goes below 10%
although the charge percentage changes 1% every 7-10 hours.
I bought a used but good battery from ebay and installed it but it worked for an hour because it came with full power charged. Then the charge was finished and the laptop was not charging the battery. I tried so many trials as I read in some forums. Even tapping and blowing in the power supply socket. None worked. Now I only work with it plugged to the mains supply. If the power someway is interrupted, it shuts down within 5 seconds. I bought another because I found no solution for this problem. But I found out the problem is common with many owners.
I bought a refurbished dell inspiron 5050 laptop from Sears 10 months ago - the battery now will not charge. My husband has the same lap top, and his battery works fine when i put in into my lap top. I tried getting in touch with dell but on the initial step on their website they said my warranty had expired - i thought it was under warranty for 12 months?? And then Sears told me its Dells responsibility rather than theirs. Where do I go with this??? SHould i still be covered by Dell?
Just tried and they said this product is already registered. I checked my warranty but it says it ran from the 12/20/2011 to the 4/20/2013. I only purchased this lap top 10/10/2012 - 10 months ago
Is it because its refurbished? Because I only have it 10 months can i contact someone about my warranty?

You must register systems purchased at retail with Dell - the warranty date will be reset to the date of purchase when you do.

It could be -- you'll need to call customer service.
