Here's the scoop. Dell Precision M90 with Vista Ultimate (4gb ram; Windows Vista Experience rating of about 5.7!).
The problem is my favorite desktop background.
I am running Dreamscene (using Deskscapes Animated Wallpaper) and the one "dream" I really like is shown in this screenshot. This screenshot does NOT show it, but the right edge of the background image has a small blue stripe that is annoying. (Try as I have, I can't seem to "capture" that edge and the blue stripe with a screenshot.)
I fully understand this stripe | flaw is the "dream" or background creator's making, BUT I was hoping I could fix it by repositioning the image with the monitor. And, I CAN FIX IT, when I connect the monitor by analog cables and input. I just position the image a teeny bit to the right and voila! ... no blue stripe.
Well, I actually run a dual monitor setup (the laptop docks to a Dell expansion station, and I use the analog out from the docking station to the right monitor (no stripe!!! I'm happy), but I have to use the digital DVI out from the docking station to the left monitor. This leaves the left digitally connected monitor -- with the dang stripe!
I was thinking SOMEHOW I ought to be able to fix the left monitor (digital cable connected) image position, just as I can the right (analog cable connected), even though they are connected differently. So far, I can't seem to do it!!!!
Chris, thanks. I downloaded and activated (in the single monitor display of the left dvi connected monitor) and it shows the Dell monitor is supported and it looks to be "all fired up and ready to go" to borrow a phrase from my favorite candidate for President (Barack Obama). Sometimes I can get the geometry control to allow a slider adjustment of the horizontal position (sometimes the geometry options are grayed out), but when I can move the slider, it has NO effect on the background image position on the monitor at all.
Hmmm. Disappointing; seems weird to me the fancier newer technology is not as flexible in control as the old analog.
I don't have the option to connect both monitors by analog. (The dual monitor half slot card Dell sold us did not really support Vista well, and eventually, Dell support said "hey, just connect the two monitors, by each one to the separate DVI and ordinary analog video out connectors." which works pretty well and does allow docking and movement between our offices. http://www.coloradodivorcemediation.com/news/dell.asp
see www coloradodivorcemediation.com/news/dell.asp)
Thanks for giving it a shot. I have my 2407WFP connected to the video card DVI. I can use softMCCS to adjust both the Horizontal and Vertical positions.

The DVI should auto resize itself on the screen? Please post a picture of your issue.

You might try loading softmccs and see if it will allow that change using DVI.
