Standby/Hibernation has been broken for ages. It can kill drivers for anything that would normally prefer to stay running (wireless, blue tooth, et cetera). The fix is to not use Windows, unfortunately.

Or hope that the mythic SP3 fixes it.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and I do agree that something is not right but loads of other people seem to use the XPS 1530 and XP with no issues so I am not really wanting to give up.

Do you think moving back to Vista will make any difference apart from allowing me to contact Dell support?

Thanks

Ally

Vista might have the same or similar issues. It's really how Windows' Standby/hibernation routine and the driver react to one another. sometimes it works hand in hand, and sometimes it's oil and water.

Microsoft has never fully addressed the issues, and may never. SP1 is supposed to, but from what I've heard, it does so by breaking a lot of other functions.

Instead of repair the connection when that happened, have you tried just to switch the wireless slider to off, wait 5 seconds then on again.

Also, in "Network and Sharing Center" / "Manage wireless networks", make sure that you only 1 occurence of your wireless router connection. Problem arise when there are multiple entries here.

Hi All,

I am delighted to say I found a fix for this last night. I went through a load of Intel drivers and this one works great, standby mode works flawlessly.

Thanks for all your help, and I hope this helps others.

Cheers,

HI

I've got the same problem using Vista;  and I just tried to see if there was an updated driver to no avail!

I've upgraded the wireless drivers on my M1530  (Vista)as mentioned in this this thread.

This fix does not work. When powering up from 'sleep' mode, the wireless is disabled. Its a bit annoying.

Futhermore, I've just installed SP1 for Vista, and it doesn't resolve the problem either

Since I posted my email, I spoke to Dell and they told me of a MS "KB" FIX!   It seems to work!   It does take a minute +/- to re-establish full internet, but it does connect!

Forgive me, but I just tried to look up the KB # and its not listed in my Add/Remove ?????

But if you call Dell, they should be able to tell you!

I can solve the problem ... sort of ... with my studio 1535 using Vista 64 bit by quickly touching the power button. If the laptop hasn't been sleeping/hibernating long ... it wakes up pretty fast. If, on the other hand ... the laptop has been sleeping for an hour or two ... quickly pressing the power button wakes the laptop up, but ... it may take 30 seconds to wake up, but ... it does wake up. No need to reboot.

There's got to be a grander ( smarter ? ) way to wake up my laptop.
