Word 2007 and HTML

I am struggling with the horrible anti-user GUI Word 2007 and I've come across a real problem. After I create a document for my classes, I save it a second time as an HTML document. With Office 2003, a page of text, when saved to html, became a web page with a bunch of text: simple and to the point. However, Word 2007 creates a massive mess of it. When I save that simple page of text now, I get a folder with a bunch of mindless gifs, metafiles (or something!), and assorted nonsense. I don't dare delete that folder because the result is a terribly messed up web page. The pages are all simple text. No equations, no fancy features, no strange fonts or effects. Yet Word 2007 is unable to create a simple HTML page. Right now, my workaround is to load the doc file into Open Office Writer and save it from there. OO does it the right way. I have always liked Office but I find myself using Open Office more and more. If OO had an equation editor that wasn't mired in the 1970's, I'd dump Office 2007 in a heartbeat. Office 2003, my old favorite, is no longer on the school's supported list and they have removed it from all the school-owned computers. OK, I'm angry and it shows! I apologize for that. But does anyone have any idea how to force Word 2007 to create a simple HTML page without the mindless bunch of doo-dads? Thanks.

Well, I'm not sure what the 'mindless bunch of doo-dads' are, but I've just tested this several times and it works for me ............. ???

It appears you have Save Thumbnail checked in the Save As dialog box. Remove it and the problem will go away. You may want to download the Interactive Word 2003 to Word 2007 guide, available << here >>. It helps with knowing where the items are in the ribbon.

The extra files being created are THMX, GIF, XML, and MSO.

I should have mentioned that this happens on both my XP Pro and Vista computers.

The Save Thumbnail checkbox is not checked on either machine.
