I have the same problem on my vostro 1000 and have done for two months +, My screen is very faint upon switch on not all the time, its intermittent and last from a few minutes upto 15 minutes, I have had programms downloaded by dell and even a new lcd and motherboard and the problem is still here, Im not a happy person, as i have to phone again tomorrow to see what we can do now.

while wating for an expert reply, I reset all LCD connections AND reduced brigthness (Fn+down arrow) AND in BIOS I have reduced brightness on powerup.

All this led to much much longer LCD functioning OK periods. I susspect backlight and/or inverter problem after reading other entries. My Notebook is 5 years old. Any experts out there  - please comment if I needto replace the backlight or inverter.

You have a dead backlight.

thanks. can I buy the backlight myself and replace it or does it need a professional service?

If you are versed in disassembling delicate parts and soldering, you can try replacing the bulb - the procedure is not trivial however.

Hi Please can you advise as in my last message im having problems with the lcd being faint, I have had a new lcd fitted and a mother board, yet i still have the same problem, Would this be the same problems as the person with the Inspirion?
