updating bios on LS400 how long should it take

Question

Trying to put more memory and a 30 gig hard drive  in my LS400 (got the standard 128 ram  and 6 gig hdd).It has the original A03 bios.I downloaded the update to A09 and put it on my flash memory stick.When I run it,a little black/blue screen comes up saying it is loading the bios with a number of things its going to do.It sits at the first option but after an hour it is still sitting there,apparently having done nothing.Am I being impatient? How long should this take to run? Also will this update allow me to fit the memory and hard drive I want? Thanks in anticipation.

The BIOS update takes no longer than 2-3 minutes.    Be careful in buying RAM for this system - max is 256M on a single DIMM, which MUST be low density.

Thanks for your reply..now.. I've got a couple of 256/133's which the Crucial web site says should fit...but it's obvious that its probably an older type of memory..what should I look for on Ebay (only place I'll get it)... the other puzzlement is that I have got the original 128 memory in it,but the bios update just wont run. Any ideas ??

What are you using to update the BIOS?  Floppy?

I just stuck the download on to a memory stick  via usb... opening window comes up but wont run.

You can't boot the system from a USB key - you will need to prepare a bootable floppy or a bootable CD.
