Hi Scozia,

I had exactly that same problem. I would have a 3 disc box set of pre-recorded dvd's (movies etc) and it would play one and not the other two etc...

Just call Dell and they will organise someone to come and replace your DVD drive.

They replaced the DVD drive in my 1330 and now it works fine.

The Dell tech that come and did it said there was a fault with some of the DVD player / burners, they know about it and you should have no problem getting it replaced.

Regards,

Craig

Thanks Craig.

I'll give them a phone and get it sorted.

Oh that's a disgrace.

I find it better to email customer support rather than wait on the phone.

It's obviously the drive... and the Dell tech here where I am (in Melbourne, Australia) said it was a 'known fault'.

I would just insist that they come out. Put it in a support email. Quite often I find that I know more about the workings of their pc's than they do when I've had to call them.

Don't give up... just email suport insisting they come out.

That's most annoying. :smileymad:

so i called up the XPS support, what a waste of 45 mins, they are convinced that it'a the operating system that's at fault or the discs, not the drive.

but they couldn't explain how the nothing was showingg up when i put in a cd, having worked as 3rd line support for the last 3 years all i can say is that dell customer support is shocking.

so i'm back at square one, anyone know of any better way to get dell to replace an obviosly faulty DVD drive???

cheers

I've sent out a support email, awaiting their reply.

i had to stop myself when on the phone as i was getting a tad irritated and was at the point where i just wanted to hang up, i ended up shutting down their gotoassist session, as i knew there were no OS issues but they just didn't get it.

lets hope their email guys are a bit better.

I wish that my computer was under warranty still (it was under warranty until November and the video is under warranty for another year because it's so faulty). My disc drive doesn't do anything now but take up space. I bought my computer in December of 2007 and so far I've had the motherboard replaced, it's rusting on the keyboard palmrest and now the drive isn't working... why did I buy this computer again? :/ DELL, please help!
