Return the system to the seller; if it has a password on it, Dell won't assist a non-registered owner - and the only SURE way to fix that problem is with a replacment system board - which will run you $400+.
If the screen comes up completely grey - no image - the LCD panel needs repair - probably $150 or more worth of that.
What you first need to do is see if it has a valid warranty; if it does then transferr ownership from the previous owner's name to your name; Then call Dell TS and have them help you; If it does not have a current warranty then see if you can still transferr ownership and you will unfortunatly have to pay for it to be fixed; but first go to http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?c=us&l=en&s=gen and see if it has a warranty on the system;
