Yes the green light is always on in the AC Adapter. Does this rule out the Adapter as the cause of the problem? What else may be the cause?

If the adapter light is always on, then the adapter is probably OK.  Then the next suspect is the contact between the adapter and the power jack on the laptop.  If this jack is loose or wiggling around, then whenever it fails to contact with the adapter for whatever reason, the laptop will switch to battery power and then go back to AC power once you change the position of the laptop enabling the jack to contact the adapter again.  If this seems plausible, have your power jack checked out and see if it can be fixed in place by a qualified laptop repair place.
