I have a problem with the same monitor. The web cam doesn't work. I have spent several hours with tech support and they said I have to reinstall windows. I don't have a Dell tower and so I think that they gave up. I don't think this is a reasonable solution since there are many others on the internet who have a problem with this monitor.
I have installed and reinstalled the drivers, unplugged and plugged in to a different USB port, and let the tech take over my computer.
In the device manage driver properties I have gotten code 19, and now I get a code 39. Since I noticed this there is also a yellow dot over my dell printer in the imaging devices in the device manager. There does not seem to be a problem with it, I tried the same steps with this as I did with the webcam just to get rid of the dot and it could not be resolved.
I used to have a logitech camera before I got the new monitor. I deleted it, but maybe there is something with that.
I'm glad that i'm not the only one with this issue, but either dell will get this working (i just got this really nice XPS 420, and decided to stick with Vista) or they will be getting me a monitor that will work to its full functionality, expectially after droping 2000 bucks on this setup. that being said, i have a few more things to try out, and if they work i'll let you guys know what i did.
When attempting to use the webcam it comes on and i get a pic for a few secs and then the computer shuts down and starts back up again.I've tried all the solutions listed here and then some to no avail. I get an error message referring the the webcam console. Also when the wizard attempts to install the new hardware, it can't find it, even with disc in the computer.Help! thanks Lou
Go to system properties (right click on my computer and select properties), go to the advanced tab, select startup and recovery, uncheck Automatically restart. The next time you do what ever it is that is causing the system to restart you should get a blue screen instead. Copy the error on the blue screen including the hex code and post it here. You will have to hold the power button down on your system until it shuts off to get out of the blue screen.
The blue screen you should get instead of a restart will give a hex code, with that we can look up what may possibly be causing the error, you could probably find it in the system logs or dump files but it's easier just to read it off a blue screen.
I’m having trouble with my integrated web cam. It will not turn on all the time.
I have reloaded the drivers once before and that did not help
I can get it to go on consistently with “Web Cam Center” where it shows a picture
Problem is it does not show up in the Webcam Console.
It worked briefly the other day when using AIM video chat, but now it does not work with that either.
I have not made any adjustments to my system
XPS420 running Vista with SP1
Dell SP2008WFP (digital with integrated webcam and mic)
Creative Technology Ltd.
Driver Date: 6/8/2008
Driver Version: 1.0.13.608
In Device Manager it shows “device is working properly”….right
Another interesting thing is that when I use AIM, the Webcam Console opens up, the BLUE light of the cam is on and I connect with my other party and can see their web cam, however, my Integrated web cam does not show a picture.
I’ve let Dell tech take control of my computer on two separate occasions and they did not solve it.
The drivers have been uninstalled and reloaded from the original disks that came with the machine.
It’s this kind of stuff that tempts me to go to Apple (I have Ichat working all day long on my Mac Book).
I have spent hours and hours on this issue it’s very disappointing.
Thanks for any help you can suggest.
