1) Is it going to be a replacement for a new unit, or I get same unit back with firmware updated?
2) What about other problems reported here, like the text afterglow and the red tint problem and colors calibration? How are these problems going to be tackled by DELL?
3) Will the warranty period be extended and count 3 years from the moment of update of firmware or unit replacement?
What about those of us who also suffer from a much brighter left hand 20% of the screen, im a photographer and if this issue is not fixed then i would require my money back, however as ive had my monitor beyond 30 days would Dell still give me my money back.
I hope so as it has been the Dell tech support guys who have been telling me to keep accepting dud replacements and to hang on for a new revision.
My monitor was bought on finance and ive already paid a 10% deposit and 1 monthly payment and am being charged interest from day 1 of my finance agreement, will Dell settle all my costs including interest accumulated and charges for early settlement of my credit agreement.
My credit agreement was not taken out through Dell UK but through Scan Computers via V12 finance company.
While the currently shipping Dell 2408WFP monitor meets both Dell and industry standard specifications, we have been closely listening to your feedback on the Dell Community Forum. Based on your comments, Dell is working to incorporate a number of improvements into the 2408WFP as a firmware update for new monitors scheduled to ship in mid-July. This firmware update features greater control over sharpness settings, improved power save recovery, and less input lag. Current 2408WFP owners whose specific usage scenario may benefit from the firmware update should contact Dell Technical Support after Mid July to receive the firmware update. If you have any questions please feel free to post them here or contact Dell Technical Support.
Jimmy,
What day should I call, or point my browser to dell.com, to place an order to get the A01 version?
What about those of us who also suffer from a much brighter left hand 20% of the screen, im a photographer and if this issue is not fixed then i would require my money back, however as ive had my monitor beyond 30 days would Dell still give me my money back.

My words exactly. The brighter left side is the nr. 1 problem here. This issue is not tolerable for a monitor in this price range. It will have to be fixed, or DELL will need to take the monitor back which I purchased in March. I've been keeping my cool as we've been told to on these boards - Waiting for a new revision.
If the brighter left side isn't fixed in 2408WFP Rev. A01, then I'm afraid that forums world wide will explode with anger towards DELL. Let's just say that DELL's reputation isn't very good on the monitor focused hardware sites these days. Not with 2408WFP's massive issues and not with the 30" monitor issues. I still can't believe that DELL keeps selling these faulty 2408WFP units.
The brighter left side is NOT acceptable. Please don't tell me that this falls within "industry specifications". No consumer with an ounce of monitor knowledge will accept that answer.
I'm really trying hard to control my dismay here. But please understand good people at DELL, that the brighter left side can not be tolerated and many people consider it a serious defect and are waiting for replacements. A lot more people than show up this board.
That's a really good news. Thank you Jimmy and thank you Dell for listenning what we say. That would have been better if the monitor was good since the beginning, but at least we have a response and a hope that it will be better soon.
Good point for input lag, the major issue in this monitor in my opinion.
You don't speak about factory settings with colors that are very bad without a calibration ! Could you modify the LUT in the screen to have better default colors ? The presets in the menu are all very bad, none of them has correct colors. You should calibrate it in your factories, it's not so difficult to do, isn't it ?
Yes, good news but as the previous couple of posters outlined, there are other problems that need to be addressed in addition to those outlined by Jimmy. The brightness variations, mainly on the left and bottom of the screen is simply unacceptable for a monitor in this price range. The reddish/pinkish tint and the colouring around text are also unacceptable. I'm on my 3rd monitor now and all 3 have had these problems in addition to input lag etc. My 1905FP dosen't have these problems, my 1907FP dosen't have these problems, even my two entry levels 24" E24WFPs don't have these problems, and the screen on my Inspiron 1525 doesn't have these problems. I think it's reasonable for me to expect that the 2408WFP which retails at least twice the price of these other monitors shouldn't have these problems either.
What about those of us who also suffer from a much brighter left hand 20% of the screen, im a photographer and if this issue is not fixed then i would require my money back, however as ive had my monitor beyond 30 days would Dell still give me my money back.

The Dell's silence about "brighter left hand issue" is eloquent (the major issue for a professional usage in my opinion)... Really bad news.
What is the status on the left side brightness issue? Will A01 fix this?
And please acknowledge that this left side brightness issue is a known issue and a defect, thank you!
I will need an acknowledgement on this issue from DELL before I take further action. Please don't ignore this issue as if it isn't there. People like me will only be further agitated, and not unreasonably so, I think.
If A01 does not fix this, I will take contact to DELL Denmark, where I bought the monitor and ask for a refund. The brighter left side is completely unacceptable. No need to wait until July, wasting further time with this defective monitor.
If A01 does not fix this and if DELL will not refund my money, I will be forced to seek council from the Danish consumer protection authorities who deal with these claims.
We need feedback on this issue, please. It's a severe problem. I need to know which course of action to take.
I simply want a monitor that works, or for DELL to take it back. I bought it in March and have been waiting very patiently. I don't want to make a huge deal of it, unless forced to do so. Thank you.
Im currently in possession of 2 dell monitors, Dell have tried to get one back from me but cant even arrange a courier on time, ive now told Dell that i want a full refund, im a photographer and seriously cant do my job with a worse than entry level monitor.
My monitor was purchased over 30 days ago so Dell might think they can refuse a refund, however if they do refuse i will simply sell both the monitors in my possession to recoup my losses.
Ive had 3 all together and all have been rubbish, the third which is still in my possession along with my original purchase was given to me on the understanding that i could leep it for a while without surrendering my original purchase as the 3rd might be worse than my original, i was proved right it was worse so its a good job i didnt surrender the original monitor.
Maybe you guys should all do the same, ask to keep and exchange for a while before surrendering your original, if it works as it should then all well and good but if it doesnt then if Dell refuse to refund you fully including the ridiculous re stocking charge then just sell them both.
In the UK there is the trades description act where a product must do what the manufacturer says or you are entitled to a full no questions asked refund, Dell dont have a legal leg to stand on as they themselves are admitting there are faults and the Monitor doesnt work correctly.
As a precaution ive also saved to a file every single message posted for the last 3 month about issues with the 2408, just in case Dell see fit to start deleting all these complaints.

Gary, though I can sort of understand your sentiment based on my own feelings towards DELL, I will not engage in a monitor exchange-a-thon and I will not try to keep monitors that DELL sends for exchange, I don't feel that is a proper and correct course of action. I want this resolved in a correct manner.
I do however want DELL to be forthcoming and admit to the left side brightness issue in particular, as that is my main major complaint with the product I bought.
I have also saved every thread here regarding the 2408WFP and update my archives as more posts are made. I have everything on record! I will not tolerate less than a totally satisfactory, in my favor, solution from DELL. After all they sold this monitor and I bought it in good faith. They have the sole responsibility for getting this resolved. My patience is running low.
Nice to have an official word, even if the result is not satisfying at all.
On my current unit I have the following issues, only mentioning the unacceptable ones:
... decreasing brightness from left to right, looks like a gradient from white to gray.
... terribly oversaturated colors. Every red turns into neon pink.
... rainbow effect around letters.
... yellow tint in the bottom-left corner.
... noticable input lag.
As only one or maybe two (rainbow-effect might be fixed by a better sharpness adjustment) of 5 issues are fixed an this in two month. Knowing this, I will return my monitor today.

Jimmy_P,
thanks for your message, sounds promising.
A couple of questions:
1) Is it going to be a replacement for a new unit, or I get same unit back with firmware updated?
2) What about other problems reported here, like the text afterglow and the red tint problem and colors calibration? How are these problems going to be tackled by DELL?
3) Will the warranty period be extended and count 3 years from the moment of update of firmware or unit replacement?
