Nice to have an official word, even if the result is not satisfying at all.
On my current unit I have the following issues, only mentioning the unacceptable ones:
... decreasing brightness from left to right, looks like a gradient from white to gray.
... terribly oversaturated colors. Every red turns into neon pink.
... rainbow effect around letters.
... yellow tint in the bottom-left corner.
... noticable input lag.
As only one or maybe two (rainbow-effect might be fixed by a better sharpness adjustment) of 5 issues are fixed an this in two month. Knowing this, I will return my monitor today.
Decreasing brightness - S-PVA problem, cannot really be fixed, but if it is really bad, a replacement could do the trick
Oversaturated colors - Usually a Windows color management problem. I have it too in Windows but when i fire up photoshop which has good color management the colors are perfect
Rainbow effect around letters - A01 firmware should fix it as it has to do with "sharpness" and such, the A01 firmware should provide better sharpness options
Yellow tint - probably production error, only fixable by replacement
I had a Samsung 245T which uses the same panel as the 2408WFP and it did not have the issue with a brighter left side. It did however emit a loud buzzing noise, so it had to go.
So if Samsung can make their panel work fine, DELL should be able to as well. I had nothing to complain about concerning the image on the 245T, but the buzzing noise made it intolerable.
I am beyond frustrated at this point, and DELL does nothing to alleviate it.
As I've asked before... DELL, please respond to the brighter left side issue and confirm it as a known issue and a defect. With hundreds of reports on the internet confirming this issue you cannot hide from it and your customers expect answers. Thank you.
You should be able to see it easily yourselves, just fire up a 2408WPF and make the background a dark uniform colour or simply a dark grey. A black background will not show it, as it has nothing to do with the backlight. Any website with a veery dark background will easily show it as well if you drag it out to the left. Most video will show it as well.
Kobo you sound like me :smileyhappy: I feel exactly like you and I am very mad that this will be overlooked by Dell. If I had to pick one thing that bothers me the most it would be that left side brightness issue. Second would be the sharpenss/red tint issue and all other issues are welcome to be resolved. I am blown away that Dell would sell and market this monitor at this price (this is suppose to be the high end mode) I waited until this release to get this?????? Sadly if this monitor was in a store..... WHICH it is not I would have reviewed it there instead of buying the monitor. I said I would take a credit from Dell and buy a monitor I felt fit my needs and they still refused. As I've stated before what complicates it more is that no one wants to buy this thing used since the reviews and posts here are so poor. Imagine that..... I am one of the only people listing this monitor for sale and no one at all is interested. So selling it like Dell suggested is not going to work for me..... so it seems :smileymad:
Exactly, I'm aware that the samsung 245T which uses the same panel doesn't have this left brightness problem as well. Hopefully Dell will be able to address this problem.
I'm holding back purchasing the 245T due to the bulkiness of it, as well as the aspect ratio limitations as compared to the 2408. However, if the brightness and colour problems can't be resolved. Bulkiness and aspect ratio limits will have to do. Colour accuracy and brightness uniformity have to be acceptable if not excellent for a 24" of this price.
Hope to hear an update about the revision soon, regarding the non-uniformity of the brightness.
I strongly disagree with these above.
1. Oversaturated colors problem - I agree that Windows messes up alot, but this is a problem with monitor itself to display the colors properly within the Windows default profile. Why all models I have tested could do it properly, including the predecessor 2407 and 2408?
If this is a Windows problem Dell should provide us a guideline how to work it around. Since the problem was hilited so many times and Dell didn't address it properly, we can ONLY take it as monitor problem.
2. Rainbow/Afterglow around letters - You should read first our posts in the "Unsolved 2408WFP picture sharpness problems" thread. Then You'd know that adjusting sharpness between 25-50% will NOT solve the problem, only slightly reduce it. Again the 2407 displays perfect B/W text where 2408 provides ugly afterglows.
On the top of these the lack of proper colour calibration requires us to buy extra equipment to do it ourselves that is not really acceptable with this price level.
For the other problems I have no comments as I was either lucky enough not to have them or they do not bog me too much.
PS
On 21st May at the German Dell site the online price of 2408wfp was reduced from 807€ to 660€. Perhaps this is the way how DELL tackles the non-addressed issues with this monitor... sigh...
I placed my first post asking about this Dell monitor way back on page 3 and was advised by Chris_M to wait until at least May 20th before ordering. Well, I was using an old NEC 19" CRT (after giving my NEC 19" LCD to my wife to use with her new Dell computer!) and was willing to wait until the suggested time. But when we heard on the 21st that it wasn't going to be until MAYBE the middle of July, I decided not to wait on this monitor or Dell any longer. So I purchased an NEC MultiSync LCD2470WVX. It's a TN panel and doesn't have nearly the number of bells and whistles as the 2408WFP (tilt/swivel/raise & lower/rotate stand and DVI/VGA inputs, that's it), but it does everything I need it to do and right out of the box looked pretty darned good, no dead/stuck pixels, no backlight bleed, same color all the way across the screen and in all four corners, no glowing letters/numbers and with only a little calibration with Monitor Calibration Wizard, it looks great. It probably wouldn't do for some of you photo pros out there -- NEC has other monitors out there for you guys -- but it will do everything I want it to do and look good doing it.
I thought about getting the other Dell 24" LCD, but since I've had experience and good luck with NECs before, I decided to just go that route. I sure hope Dell gets all of these issues straightened out on the 2408WFP for those of you who need them, but I'm really not sure it's worth all the aggravation you guys have been putting with this all this time.
While the currently shipping Dell 2408WFP monitor meets both Dell and industry standard specifications, we have been closely listening to your feedback on the Dell Community Forum. Based on your comments, Dell is working to incorporate a number of improvements into the 2408WFP
Jimmy.
It's great to see that Dell is making an A01 based on our comments.
It's great that Dell is available to swap customer's monitor for free.
It's great that you and this forum just exist.
But.
Please do not try to picture A01 as a gift that Dell give to the customer. Magazines and websites test and compare monitors and the issues we found are the same they found and are the ones that counts.
You're not making a new firmware because you're kind and just for us. You're making a new firmware because of the issues of the A00 revision, that has been pointed out by us and by best magazines/websites.
The truth is, in my honest opinion, that this devices are tested in a very poor way, and that the cost of exchanging few units is lower than have some professionals testing deeply the monitor's performances.

I think you may have something here. I used to work for the largest appliance mamufacturer in America. Using their name here would not be productive. When they assembled their washing machines, for example, they would pull every 500th washer from the assembly line and do an operational test on it. If they found a defect, that did nothing about it, and the assembly line continued as normal. After they pulled off a total of 5 washing machines and tested them and found the same defect as the previous four, they then would stop the line and address the defect. All the while at least 2,500 washing machines went out to customers with this defect. When I questioned this practice, I was told it was cheaper to send service technicians to repair the defective washers in the home than it would to stop the assembly line and repair them at that time. Cost effective, yes, custormer satisfaction, no. So what does this little story tell you about how big manufacurers and distributors feel about profit versus customer satisfaction. I think you know the answer.
I have to admit that Dell does not have any trouble exchanging items...
Well, I have a little problem with the above since Dell would not exchange a system that I purchased earleir this year, that had major issues from the time I unboxed it. I litterly fought with customer support trying to get Dell to replace my defective system that has a warped case. So much so, that I could not insert a second hard drive into the hard drive bay. After all the fighting and not getting satisfaction, I still have the system with the warped case and after I had to modify the hard drive cage to get the hard drive to fit. So, saying that Dell does not have any trouble exchanging items, did not work for me. But I have the last say on this, Dell want get any more of my money either.
It came a little late for me, since I sold my monitor, input lag was unbearable for me.
In all fairness, I got to give a lot of credit to Dell. I mean, look at other companies, like Samsung. Many of their monitors have really bad input lag, people complained and they couldn't care less, as log as majority is ok with it. Here people complained about input lag and Dell did something about it. Now, I wish that picture quality issues were addressed as well, but here is where we came to money bussiness. Tweaking software and changing firmware does not cost a thing, but fixing a "bright left" may be very costly. They will fix that, but it will be called 2409. Regardless, I feel that Dell at least listen what people say, it's just a shame that they do those profit driven product rush out releases without proper testing.

Ok... Usually :)
Time to go back on topic or someone will ban us! :)
I regret following DELL's "advice" and having waited for the issues to be resolved, only to see that left side brightness/washout issue is not the list of fixes for the A01. This monitor is garbage and everyone should stay well away from it.
I'm still waiting for DELL to acknowledge the brighter left side as a known issue and a defect. They are still silent. They probably know that this one is a big deal and that it's going to cost them. However the only right thing to do is to fix the problem with a new revision or offer full refunds to 2408WFP owners who cannot live with this particular problem, especially since DELL gave out bad advice and told us customers to stop making exchanges and wait.
I'll take this issue as far as I need to, but I hope DELL will take care of the issues in a proper and satisfactory manner. If there's no word from DELL during the coming week, I'm taking this further.
Silence is golden as far as the dell support guys go, ive even emailed a support guy direct after he gave me his email address, guess what, no reply even after he had promised me personally
Dell is rubbish and im now putting 2 monitors on ebay, seriously does anyone want to buy 2 new monitors, make me an offer.

The bad thing is that Dell and your washing machine's manufacturer is not the only one doing this. It's a money business.
I have to admit that Dell does not have any trouble exchanging items...
I'm still not a Dell customers. I'll wait Mid-July I think :)

Dell, please, some people are waiting for you reply about this question too time ago.
And we, the 2408WFP's owners who trusted to Dell, deserve an answer.
Regards.
