Hi All,

at last I got a setup where the text rainbow/afterglow is down to zero!!!

I tried to calibrate the unit again with ClearType ON, ClearType Tuning and softMCCS and here's my final setup:

Gamma: MAC

Custom profile: R/G/B: 75/74/80

Sharpness: 43% (softMCCS command: 03 8C 35 0D)

ClearType: ON on Windows system, switched OFF in applications (IE, Office) (!!!)

Brightness: 38

Contrast: 50

With this setup I tried out ClaerType Tuning and the 1st profile produced for me the afterglow-free text.

I must say the text quality is now better as on the 2407 (I have not yet compared them side by side after this step though).

I still believe that some texts look crispier w/o ClearType on but I presume it is now more a matter of getting used to it, not a real issue.

Now the only big outstanding issue for me is the red tint. With my setup I managed to reduce it greatly but still one can see the huge difference between Photoshop and Windows color space. The Windows Color management says that the Default Windows Color space is sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Does that just mean that calibration for this monitor for this color space is incorrect?

Another question is how to change it? In this place I think I'm repeating martidi's question...

Thanks alot to ALL of You for Your support here!

Withouth sharing of Your experience I do not think I would solve this problem.

@Andre66...

Great ! We should have very close panels because your values are very similar to mine.

We know need to find how to apply this 2408WFP.ICM to the whole windows environment ;)

I've just one question: I've found out for IE7 (explained previously) but how do you turn off ClearType in Office (2003 or 2007 ?).

Thanx

Hi martidi,

only Office 2007 supports the extra ClearType switch. I tested it with Office 2003 only, and for this version you do not need to do anything. Sorry, I was not too specific on that.

For the panels: I guess you're right. I think since we're both in Europe we got the units from same factory in Czech Republic (I guess the "CZ-" prefix in the part number stands for that). I posted already the Part Number of my panel, so if yours is not that different means my theory is right:)

Instead of changing the color space in Windows I'd prefer that DELL makes the calibration right for the default color space.

It costed us so much time to get the stuff right that I think DELL should give us these monitors for free as bonus:)

I believe most of the glow is gone using sharpness set to 43%, but I think to make it perfect a setting closer to 40% would be better.

I was unable to get anywhere close to blending on this page before:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/sharpness.php

however, with 43% sharpness it's very close.

Since 0D and 0C are one "digit" apart, I assume there is no way to set the sharpness to 40% using this method though.

Actually the values sent are 00 0D and 00 0C.

So maybe by changing the first byte we can have more granularity:

16 0C or so...

I've never tried it though.

Anybody ?

Could you PM your order number to me. When you get the monitor, check the contrast adjustments in the OSD. If you don't have 10% increments of adjustments you don't have the new firmware.

I believe you mean the sharpness adjustment?  On the A00 revision, it moves in steps of 25 and is promised to move in steps of 10 in A01.  Because the contrast adjustment moves by increments of 1...I really hope that's not being changed to 10.

JimmyP -

You mentioned that customers with the A00 could request exchanges for the model with new firmware after mid-July. Does this also apply to Canadians?

I don't see why it wouldn't, if you call in for a problem and they replace it after the new firmware is cut it, you should get one.

Hi Jimmy!!

Can I confirm that the 1 to 1 exchange for the new firmware applies internationally? More specifically, in Singapore?

Thanks..

I live overseas on an US military base in Japan and had the same question as the poster above. Also, who would be paying for shipping in this case, because I'm not willing to pay $90 for shipping for Dell's mistake. Other alternative would be to somehow manage to work things out with Dell in Japan if possible. A response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you guys for posting your setting...MAC and 37% sharpness with softMCCS, etc.  I am loving the monitor now.  I have this monitor for almost 2 months now, I am not seeing the pinkish stuff.  The left side is only a little brighter than the right side...I did not notice that until I read the post and really look hard at it.  I only paid $390 US for it...it was an even exchange from a defective E248WFP.  I guess I am a lucky 2408 owner!
