1. Click the start button and type in "device manager and go to it"

2. Expand the "sound video and game controllers"

3. Right click on the drop down and go to uninstall

4. A warning box will appear and you need to tick the box to delete the driver software

5. Once deleted go to this link

Or this one if ur in the USA (but its the same driver)

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=284A36D51B8B897AE040A68F5B285AE4&l=en&s=dhs

Then go down to "Download and Install the Audio Driver"

6. Click the download and drivers link and follow the instructions.

Once this is installed and the computer is restarted the sound should work again.

Let me no how you get on.

Try using the playing audio troubleshooter to fix the problem. It detects common problems in with volume settings, your sound card or driver, and speakers and headphones. To do this, click start button and then click control panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and click troubleshooting. Under hardware and sound, select Troubleshoot audio playback. If asked for an administrative password, type the password or give confirmation.
