Looks like the backlighting is fading. Hope it is still under warrenty. If not, there are places that sell the parts if you have the electronics bacground to change them

It's brand new so I wouldn't expect the backlight to be going already.

I didn't buy it direct from Dell - It came from another company and I think it's originally from the Dell outlet, but was sold as cancelled order stock, not refurbished.

Anyway, I can live with the flicker - it's the red tint that's most annoying.

There's been a bit of discussion about these issues (not just with this monitor). They don't seem to be related to aging backlights. Try a forum search.

tenfootrob,

I have a forum post about the color setting option in the OSD menu.  Can you take a look and report back on that thread what you see if you change the setting?

Thanks,

Bob

This isn't related to my issue. I don't have any HDTV equipment anyway and can't see the setting you're referring to.

I don't know about flicker, but a purple/pink tint is normal on IPS screens when dark screen is viewed at an angle. New H-IPS have a white haze instead, and new NEC H-IPS screens with Advanced True Wide Polarizer, seem to have perfect viewing angles matching CRT with no negatives.

To see if it is the viewing angle issue. Move further left, it should get worse on the right and vice versa.

Bascially as you move around the tint should move as well. This is normal.

No LCD type is perfect. IMO IPS is the best technology and the pink tint is a minor issue.

Viewing angle quotes from manufacturers are complete fabrications. IPS actually has the best real world with a light pink/violet tint. TN and VA have more searious image affecting viewing angle issue. YMMV. You might prefer a VA screen.

From the threads I've read on this issue it is different to the typical S-IPS purple tinge. It is most visible on light backgrounds and also occurs on the 2408WFP, which uses an S-PVA panel. It seems to me it is an issue with the backlighting.

What I'm seeing is not the purple tinge on black screens.

The pink tint is independant of viewing angle - the centre of the screen is white no matter which angle I look at it from, but the right edge always has a subtle pink tint whether I'm looking at it square on or from the side.
