Also, I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600 with 128mb of ram.

Thanks

I initially noticed the same problem, but it got resolved after I upgraded the ATI driver to the most recent Omega Driver ( http://www.omegacorner.com/index_ati.html).

Hey, I have the same problem with my WUXGA Inspiron 8500.  Sometimes when I open the lid back up, the resolution changes to 640x480 centered in the middle of the screen with large black borders.  When I try to change the resolution in the display properties, it won't allow me to move the slider.  But if I open up the Advanced properties, click OK out of that and OK out of the display properties, then it'll let me change the resolution back the next time I open up the display properties (sometimes takes a couple of open/close cycles).  I have tried to latest Dell drivers and some of the Omega drivers.  Does anyone know which Omega driver to use for a 64MB NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Go card? (not on the list)  Kinda strange, just started happening a couple of weeks ago.

The Omega drivers are only for ATI cards. You might want to try a forum search... many people on this board, in particular, are using non-Dell drivers.

Thanks, I'll try searching around.  Omegacorner does have  some NVIDIA drivers ( http://www.omegacorner.com/index_nvidia.html), but I don't think the Go cards are supported.

Regarding problems with Desktop Icons moving around all the time, or scattering during monitor resolution changes, try this shareware app out:

http://www.nouturn.com/resetter/

It will remember the icons positions and automatically reset them back each time the res changes. You can manually reset them to via a system tray icon.

Hope this helps,

Nick

Same problem with my Inpiron 600m: resolution switches to 800X600 when screen closes and switches back when it opens.  Tried everything, even DELL tech support - thought it was hopeless.  That driver worked, though, thanks for the tip...
