When I try to go into safe mode it won't, but at the bottom left of the screen the words safe mode are highlighted in blue, although when I hit enter it attempts to boot into windows, which fails. No way can I get into safe mode.
Thank you Ron, for at least posting a follow up question about my problem. But when I realized I wasn't about to get much help from this board I called Dell. They have agreed to send me a Tech with new mobo, memory, hdd's and cables. The thing just won't boot, not even after a clean install of the OS.
Well Ron, i didn't need the hammer, but thanks anyway.
The dell tech arrived and installed a new motherboard and ram. Now it's fine. He said he thought the mobo was fried. We didn't bother changing out the hard drives or cables because mine tested OK.
I wasn't aware that Dell ponds off refurbished things like motherboards and ram and sometimes hdd's. But anyway it all works now.
Most/all Dell replacement parts are refurbished. But that can be a good thing. Refurbished parts are usually tested more thoroughly than new ones just off the assembly line.

Sorry I didn't help you fix it. Let's hope all that new hardware does the trick. Otherwise, I'll lend you a very large hammer. ;)
Post back and let us know that you're up and running again.

Yea! Glad it's fixed!

Hope you don't have any further problems.
