My vostro 1310 has the same problem. I've gone through the tech support steps that both Skype and Dell suggest but no joy. The webcam works, but just not with skype - pity that's the only thing I'd use it for. Any suggestions?
I just had a great session online with Dell Support. Well...when I say great all it did was pass a half hour.
No help at all, just told to go back to Skype as it must be their problem - which sounds very similar to Skype's suggestion of going back to Dell because it must be their problem.
Hi: the webcam used to work but recently it has stopped - the blue light comes on but I don't get a visual when I test.

I have reinstalled Skype, rebooted, reinstalled drivers, check that it shows up in device manager , ensure that no other software is running, have good network speed, good lighting, 60 speed on network but now am at a loss as to why it does not function. I have Vista and have been installing the updates as requested(required) by Microsoft. Please help - love the fact that I have a webcam.
Is there any other way to test it other than through Skype without installing Messenger, etc.?
Did you ever manage to get anywhere with Dell on this? I have had same problem for 2 years but havent started using skype frequently now (and it is doing my head in!!!) I have a Dell Vostro 1510. My Skype username is emma.leiper , TBH I havent contacted Dell about it as I thought it was a driver/user related problem however looking at the forums I see it is not.I would really appreciate your input and suggestions what to try next.
Had the EXACTLY the same problem with my old 510m - am running AVG and this uses to much of the system resource - I disabled AVG and with the increase in resource it works OK.

Hey - if you can get the webcam to work with other apps, but not Skype, then clearly something's not working as it should.
Drop me a note with your email address and Skype name and I'll do my best to sort things out.

Are you running AVG or one of the other larger security programs Try disabling it and restart Skype -- best of luck
