You have the standard integrated video which is a limited graphics device, but you should try installing the driver for your monitor that should have come with the monitor.  If not, it's available for download here:

http://www.viewsonic.com/support/drivers/drivers.cfm?category=1&formName=monitor

After the driver is installed you may be able to run 1280X1024, which is a resolution above the native support of the standard integrated video.

If you click the 2 button on the display properties is anything different there?  Sorry, I'm not a pro with graphics issues.  You may wish to re-post in the laptop video forum for further assistance.

hey are you trying to connect the viewsonic monitor as a 2nd display on your laptop and using the laptop screen or just using the viewsonic as a single screen?

i suppose that the 1 in your case is the laptop screen. if the laptop screen has a max of 1024x768, u cannot go any higher. that is normal. but when u connect your viewsonic to the VGA of the laptop, u have to press Fn+F8 to switch between the different config of the screens. try that out. and judging from the screenshot, you also have to select "extend......" when u press the "2" screen.

tell us how it goes.
