You have the standard integrated video which is a limited graphics device, but you should try installing the driver for your monitor that should have come with the monitor. If not, it's available for download here:
If you click the 2 button on the display properties is anything different there? Sorry, I'm not a pro with graphics issues. You may wish to re-post in the laptop video forum for further assistance.

hey are you trying to connect the viewsonic monitor as a 2nd display on your laptop and using the laptop screen or just using the viewsonic as a single screen?
i suppose that the 1 in your case is the laptop screen. if the laptop screen has a max of 1024x768, u cannot go any higher. that is normal. but when u connect your viewsonic to the VGA of the laptop, u have to press Fn+F8 to switch between the different config of the screens. try that out. and judging from the screenshot, you also have to select "extend......" when u press the "2" screen.

After the driver is installed you may be able to run 1280X1024, which is a resolution above the native support of the standard integrated video.

But it seems problem is somewhere else.
Yes, I found CD with instalation software for my monitor
I cant instal drivers or what this is because computer said that I must
I tried to instal manually from CD but it didnt work out.
In my control panel I still cant change resolution.
Mybe I should instal diferent driver for dell or something.
I spend so much Time on this problem and solution I thing is very easy but I can find it.
& I am thankfull for your further advise & time.
I have dell inspirion 6400.

If I click second monitor The resolution can be changed to 1280X1024
but when I click apply nothin hapened.
I will check a litle bit.
