The XPS M1530 8600M GT card uses DDR3 which is a faster RAM.
As far as the difference between the two laptops-they are pretty much the same. Same chassis, same components. Less bloatware loaded on the Vostro and you get business support for the Vostro as opposed to consumer support on the Inspiron.
I like my Vostro and have been very happy with it.
Bloatware is all of the useless software that manufacturers like to load on their new computers. Most people remove it. Many times it is sample, outdated, or introduction software that you have to upgrade for it to be useful.

Thanks for your reply. What do you mean by bloatware? Is there anything in it that I might actually want?

They are both DDR2.
