Why are you blaming Dell for lack of 64-bit drivers and an OS Dell doesn't ship or support on this system?

His issue is the "hidden" problem that x32 systems don't support more then 4 gigs total ram. This includes what's on your video card, virtual ram, real ram, etc...

So if you bough 4 gigs real ram and a, we'll go top of the line here, 1 gig ram video card that's 1 gig of ram not being used some where.

It's what every one is doing. I don't blame Dell.

Most people however get upset when they realize that 1 gig isn't being used or more upset when they can't set up x64 thinking that windows is just windows and should just work.

I haven't had any issues with using Vista at both home and at work. I think where the real problem is for the tweakers and for people who are trying to run it on old hardware.

People said similar things about XP when it came out and it was one of the most hated OS upgrades, now people are holding on to XP as if it were the best OS ever released just as they did when XP was released and they wanted to hold onto Windows 98.

Most people should just stay on XP.

Using that has been known to cause other issues and it still will not fully work. This isn't just an OS limitation its simple math.

Yep, I'm surprised at how poor the driver support has been for any 64bit OS.

We could all switch to Mac's.

The issue is more so utilizing all for 4gb's for gaming and other Apps...the lack of drivers makes it impossible.

The problem been's known for awhile.  It's only that with memory becoming a commodity more and more people are becoming aware.  My 1530 came with 4GB by default, how much would 4GB of RAM cost 6 months or even a year ago?

I'm certainly not complaining as XP will certainly run quite fast with only 3.5 GB of memory.  With Vista being the resource hog it is, I can see more of a legit complaint.  However with the largest base of users continuing use 32 bit O/S's developers aren't going to put out 64 bit drivers.  It's simply not cost effective.

My plan is going to be dual booting Server 2008 64 bit and XP 32 bit.  I'm going to setup VM's for Vista, XP, Ubuntu, and 2000 as I need to be able to see those environments for work.  I'll still be able to game on XP hence the dedicated partion.
