max,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The TrueMobile 1300 card should fit the Latitude C640.  Antennae only are installed in the system if it is ordered this way from the factory.  It looks as though your system was purchased without this option.  The range will be limited to the output of the card itself in this case.

The only way to tell if it has a antenna is to open the MiniPCI slot (Take the cover off) and look to see if there a loose wire in there that has a small connector on it. If there is such a wire in that area then it is the antenna. Most Dell notebook from the C600/i8000 series up have the antenna included with the motherboard/speaker assembly.

Good luck, the TM1300 should work fine.

Hi, i have a c600, and i only have one antennea wire.  Is that ok to use with the truemobile 1300? I bought one on ebay and installed it.  It didn't recognize it, nothing happened.  Not a single difference when i started windows xp.  Is it supposed to automatically detect or am i at a loss?
