You have to connect the audio output from the PS2 to some kind of amplified speakers, eg. computer speaker system, or the Soundbar. S-Video, Composite and Component connections are for video only.
i dont mean to sound like a jerk but are you saying the red audio port is just for show in this monitor? it doesn't really do anything other than keep that red connection from just dangling?
The red RCA jack is one of the three Component video inputs. The audio out jack is a pale green 3.5mm mini-jack (but is only used with HDMI input as you discovered). The monitor has no separate audio inputs.
