The lack of transformers and your description leads me to bet you have faulty monitors. I get them this way all the time. I don't know why people hang onto the video cable and transformer as they will most likely collect dust and then becomes tossed.
Best bet is to find someone who repairs them and pass them along.
I'm pretty sure they do have a fuse. Problem is getting to it, then identifying it as they are not usually the regular kind of fuse. And then getting a replacement. I have on more than 1 occasion made my own fuse as replacements were not available.
Then there is the issue of it you get a light, your fuse is not blown
