So, I had the same problem as you.  As soon as I bought the Studio 1735, the increase sound touch button did not work.  Very very rarely, when I tapped it, it worked.  At first I thought that I got a difective laptop but then I tried to update all the drivers that where available with my service tag on the Dell website and fortunately there was an update that did the work (do not know the name).

Now when I tap the increase volume botton, it works fine.

Also, with regards to the sound noice, you could try the following steps:
1. Go to: Start –> Control Panel –> Device Manager.
2. Click the plus (+) sign next to “Network Adapters“.
3. Right-click on your wireless adapter and select “Properties“.
4. Go to the “Advanced” tab.
5. Select “Disable Bands“.
6. Pull down “Disable 802.11a“.
7. Click “Apply

These steps should allow you to actually listen to music without any distortion.  Worked for me.

Thunderer,

Thanks for this!

I was surfing the forum, because I just upgraded my sound driver on my Latitude D620, and the on screen display didn't display when I hit the increase, decrease, or mute volume button, as it used to before the upgrade.  On a lark, I disabled 802.11a (it's a slightly different method on my D620), and now the display is back.

For anyone who needs to know how I did this, the directions are:

  1. Go to: Start –> Control Panel –> System.
  2. Click on the Hardware tab.
  3. Click "Device Manager"
  4. Click the plus (+) sign next to “Network Adapters“.
  5. Right-click on your wireless adapter and select “Properties“.
  6. Go to the “Advanced” tab.
  7. Select “Wireless Mode"
  8. Unselect "Use Default Value"
  9. Open drop down and select: 802.11b and 802.11g
  10. Click "Ok"

Thanks, again, Thunderer!

UPDATE: I was able to switch back to 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, and the on screen display still worked.

I don't have problem with sound quality.

I have problem with TOUCH BUTTONS, they don't work.

I tryed everything, but they wont to work.

When I tap them there is a light, but no action.

And something else, tree led diodes, for WI-FI, BT and HDD, also not lighting. And never did.

Is there is a solution for multimedia touch buttons or not?

Hello,

I'm having a similar problem with Dragan above with my 1735: the touch buttons will not work at all. They only light up for a fraction of a second as i touch them (no "slow fading", no check-up "dance" at startup), and with no result. Also, wifi and hdd leds didn't work from the beginning (bt led works though). I've bought the laptop without OS, and the touch keys worked in the beginning (they did "slow fade" when touched). Then i accidentally formatted the 2 gb partition existing on the hard before installing Vista, and that's when i assume i've lost some critical files. I did all the updates from Dell, but to no result. Anybody has any solution? Thanks in advance!

I just got my new Studio 1737 a couple of weeks ago.  The buttons all worked for a couple of days, then all of a sudden none of the touch buttons worked.  I called Dell Support Centre.  They uninstalled Quickset and reinstalled updated Dell_QuickSet_A01_R195575.  Then he installed Dell Computer Flash BIOS upgrade.  Still nothing.  He had me shutdown the computer, remove the battery and remove the screw under the battery.  This allows you to remove the touch panel above the keyboard.  I had to GENTLY pry it up where it meets the keyboard.  There is a white cable that attaches from the keyboard to the touch panel.  I disconnected it and then made sure I had a good connection when I reconnected it.  I put the touch panel back on, installed the screw and the battery.  When I started the computer the touch panel lights lit up and the touch panel now works fine.  I don't know if it is a combination of the three things that were done or just that the cable didn't have a good connection.  It only took about an hour with the service guy on the phone.

Hope this helps

I also had the same problem with cable. It seems that is the factory problem.

I resolved this problem reattaching the cable.

I had this problem again about a day after getting it fixed.  I re-installed Dell_QuickSet_A01_R195575.  Then I installed Dell Computer Flash BIOS upgrade again.  Still nothing. I disconnected the cable and reconnected the cable again.  This seemed to work.:emotion-2:  It's been two weeks and I haven't had the problem since.  The service guy said that when you install Dell Computer Flash BIOS upgrade sometimes you have to disconnect and reconnect the Touch Panel cable.

I have reset my Restore system to this date in case it happens again.  I still have Dell_QuickSet_A01_R195575 and Dell Computer Flash BIOS upgrade in a file folder in case the Restore System point doesn’t work.  :emotion-6:

Restore System point didn't work:emotion-39:

I disconnected the cable and reconnected the cable again.

I don't know why this has to be done so often. :emotion-12:

This is the third time in a month.

If it happens again I will get on the phone with the service guy.  :emotion-15:

I have a new Inspiron laptop, I have one problem, the F11 key for reducing volume does not work at all, F12 key for increasing volume level does not work at all but the Mute key works for both turning off or on the sound.

Would you be kind enough to help me.

Great news Jim, I seem so so foolish, all I required to do was to press the "Fn" key and the Volume key at the same time and it is now working properly.

regards, Ray
