You can get Microsoft driver if its not too late. There is 'Rollback Driver' button under 'Update Driver' button. So if your system still has Microsoft driver available - it will roll it back.

The rollback driver button is grayed out for me :smileyindifferent:

Is there another way to obtain alternative, preferably Microsoft audio drivers?

August 26th, 2008 04:00

i have this same problem too. the sound is fine until i try to webcam with AIM or record music with a sound recorder. the audio becomes choppy then gives out completely. only way to get my audio back is to restart my computer. i spoke with 3 agents from dell support for hours and hours. each one of them connected directly and gave their shot to try and solve it. they installed and uninstalled drivers and IDT codecs and ugraded BIOS and all that stuff and still.... issue unresolved.

i am seriously THIS close to returning this system cuz i dont even know if i want to give Dell the chance to replace my system considering how much of a hassle it is. I am a college student and i am going to be moving in less than a month! i dont have time to be dealing with this! what do you guys think? has dell solved this problem yet?

hollywoodhusky:

This sounds like software compatability issues.

What version of AIM are you using, and what program are you using to record sound?

August 26th, 2008 17:00

i am using AIM 6.8 and Super Mp3 Recorder Pro.

i have a feeling its a vista problem though? cuz after i lose sound my itunes wont play music or music online wont stream. its as if they were told not to play? i dont know....

yeah, im hoping its just Vista vs software compatability cuz vista is still relatively new.

but im just wondering if anyone else has this annoying problem and if theres a way to fix it....

I'm experiencing the exact same problem only with windows live messenger (and maybe ICQ too but I'm not 100% sure about that yet). Audio works fine untill one of these softwares makes a sound, then some sort of collision occurs and the audio driver stops working although everything looks ok in the device manager.

I'm not a big expert but after dealing with it for a while I think I found a temporary solution for the problem. I simply disabled all the sounds in my windows live messenger and ICQ. So far everything's working just fine.

I know this is not the best but still losing sounds in a couple of softwares is better than losing them all, so I guess I'm gonna stick to that, at least till those real experts come up with a better permanent solution.

My suggestion to you guys - keep your messengers installed (MSN Yahoo AIM or whatever) and just try to disable the software's sounds. See if it works out for you the same way it did for me.

yeah i just havent been using the webcam and i havent been using the sound recorder.

i understand what you mean by 'temporary solution' but i mean, ultimately we DO want to have audio on our webcams and other programs. im so annoyed with vista...

Thanks very much for this post. I got my Studio 1735 laptop on just before the labor day weekend and since then i have had about 1.5hr chat and remote login sessions with 2 support reps. Both of them reinstalled the IDT High Definition Audio Codec. When i asked the 2nd agent whats the root cause, she said the audio codec. But the system worked at that time and some more times after a restart and now as I am writing this i am on call waiting with Dell regarding the same issue. Its good that now i know what causing the problem, i am going to ask DELL TECHNICAL SUPPORT to do non-technical stuff and process my system replacement request. I hope they can do that without much hastle.

Meanwhile i am going to google this stuff and see if i get a solution for my depression.

Yesterday  I talked to an agent like for nearly 1 1/2 hours .....initially he told me that yahoo has software incompatability with the driver ..so uninstalled yahoo............ reinstalled driver upgraded the bios...but couldn't find a solution...... i showed him the sam problem with gtalk...then finally he went up to his manager and came bak and said that many dell studio laptops have this problem and so a team is wotrking to comeup with a bios update soon to fix it and would let everyone know through email.... but later i uninstaled the driver and in the next reboot microsoft drivers were installed automatically..... no everything seems to be fine ....finally

Hi

I have the IDT PC Sound Driver working ok on a new Studio 1535 running Windows XP.

However, when I try to intall the AMD HD audio driver, which I think you need for Blu-Ray playback? it seems to "Cancel out" the IDT Sound Driver, and the laptop stops audio playback completely?

I then need to run the install of the IDT driver again to get sound back.
