What does the power button light do? What Color is it? Does it flash or steady?
Do you hear the fans spining up?
Almost sounds like a power supply issue but can not rule out the motherboard with out further troubleshooting.

Power off, open the case, disconnect everything from the power supply except for the video card. Power the PC on. What color is the power button LED? What color are the Diagnostic Lights?
