I'm having the exact same problem with the exact same laptop as of today. My graphics card died a couple weeks ago, and after spending $290 to get a new one (didn't get it from dell, or else it would have been more like $500), buying a new 130 watt AC adapter for $50, and spending hours of time installing it myself today, I went to turn on my laptop, all happy that I had finally replaced my graphics card and NOTHING happened. No sounds. No anything. The green LED light stayed on for about 2 seconds then it turned off. I tried putting my original graphics card back in and still nothing happened, so it can't be the graphics card.

If anyone knows what the problem is, I'd love to hear it.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it's not the motherboard. something tells me that may be either impossible to replace, or it'll cost a ton of money to do so.

DJKeebler,

Take out your battery, hard drive, and optical drive along with the memory modules.

Now hold down the fn key along with the power button for 5 seconds. If all the buttons across the top of panel stay solid green, your MOBO is dead and needs replacing.

bjwiley,

If you can not turn it on to run diagnostics it is going to be hard to determine the problem.Try removing the memory modules one at a time, and putting one module in each slot at a time. You could just have a bad memory module.if this is not the problem,my guess would be either the MOBO or Video card,or possibly both.

Or your battery died.

The only reason i knew about doing that is my systems MOBO,video card, and memory modules were bad 2 weeks ago.And this is how they determined it.So if all 3 lights are lit solid, your MOBO is bad.

I've done as you suggested to DJKeebler but no change.  The farther most left 3 lights stayed lit as long as I held down the Fn key and the power button.  I'm praying that means that my motherboard is ok.  I did notice that when I try to power on, I don't hear any sound (i.e. not hard drive spin up, no optical drive spin up, no fans at the little vents put out any air much less noise.  It's just dead quiet except for the flashing of the little green lights.  Also, the screen doesn't even flicker.  I've removed it's connection and reseated it so it shouldn't have an issue.

I am getting confused on these replies,i should of answered single posts instead of doing it on one,my fault.

Your HDD won't boot in your wifes E1505 i don't think,if you removed your HDD,optical drive, memory modules, and battery, then hold down the fn key + the power button for 5 seconds and the 3 lights across the front of the laptop stay lit solid green, then your MOBO,and possibly video card are both bad.

DGKPCON,

Thanks for the advice.  Sadly, I must report that it still doesn't work.  I took out the memory and tried a single mem module in a single bank to rule out the memory or the bank (tried to boot using 1 stick in 1 bank for each of the two modules and each of the two banks - i.e. 4 attempted boot-ups.)  Notta thing happened other than the light on for 2 secs and then power off.  The battery is only a month old so I'd hate to know it has already gone bad.  In fact, I kinda doubt that it has because I used it on battery power the day before.  That either makes me think MoBo, Video card, or some other piece of internal junk.  Out of curiosity, do you have to disassemble the laptop to get to the vid card?  Do you know of a good way that I could test the hard drive?  In fact, if I could find a way to connect it to my wife's e1505 or my Deminsion 8800 desktop so that I could pull over the contents, I'd be as happy as a pig with a bucket of slop. :smileyvery-happy:  Last question and then I'll hush ... if my laptop will be too costly to repair, do you believe that my memory sticks will be compatible with my wife's?  If so, that'll keep me from having to spend more money to update her laptop.
