Yeah - but hate to start over if there is a fix - will probably do a full restore if tinkering does not work tonight - kid leaves for school on Sat

That restore procedure is very fast, be sure to back up any important data, as the hard drive will be completely wiped during the Factory restore process.

 

Then do Windows updates and get SP1 and any others that show up.

Well, SP1 was preinstalled so I would hope its on the image

Could not even get into system restore either, so I did the factory reinstall last night.  Everything is working fine now.  Scary though, no idea how this happened in the first place.
