Thanks derfsch but I haveallready checked that info with the same success as you (ie. nil).
I note a number of people have reported this problem without anyone coming up with an answer. I spoke to Dell service by phone and email but they have not come up with any answer other than to say I probably will have to buy a new monitor. I find it hard to believe it is not fixable. :-(
I agree with your comment about this Monitor not being fixable. You might want to see the gselburg post and my reply to his answer to my post both on 8/5/02. DELL'S recomendation to buy a new monitor is not satisfactory to me. Fortunately there are other good monitors available and we are not required to stay with DELL.
The "Menu" button I mentioned in my post (as having held down for 10 seconds) is the OSD button. Sadly it did not work.
This problem has been mentioned in this forum by a number of people and currently at least 3 people appear to have it. Surely there is an answer. Have you any other ideas?
This has happened to me twice. The following worked both times:
1.Bring up the main OSD on the screen with one push of the main button on the monitor.
2.While the OSD is showing on screen, push and hold the reset button at the left bottom of the screen; HOLD it for at least 10 seconds. The screen will flash twice during this time.
3.Release the reset button, move the OSD cursor to the lower right box and unlock the screen.
This reset the whole thing for me, I dont know why (pulled my hair out for an hour untill I stumbled on this. Perhaps it will work for someone else.

While your suggestion did not exactly work for me it was very close.
What worked for me was as follows:
1. Bring up the main OSD screen with one push of the MENU button on the monitor.
2. Using left arrow CONTRAST button (to right of the Menu button) bring up Option menu in bottom left hand corner of OSD (mine was in a foreign language at that stage).
3. Hold down MENU button, left arrow CONTRAST button and the RESET button all at the same time for approx 10 seconds.
4. Bingo! My screen unlocked and the the settings came back to normal.
LESSON!!!
There is obviously an unpredictable bug with this monitor which locks the screen and scrambles the settings when you use some software. It is also obvious to me that when it scrambles the settings, the way to unlock it is going to vary from person to person because the settings have been scrambled differently for different monitors. I think the answer is to try different combinations of holding buttons down while also holding the RESET button down at the same time. It is very frustrating trying to find the answer but be patient and persistent and try all the combinations you can.
The solution that worked for Horus_200 also worked for me. I thought my monitor was a goner when none of the arrow keys could be used to turn off control lock, but "contrast down" and "reset" button held down at the same time was able to un-freeze the controls so I could then turn off control lock and reset to factory settings.
OMG, many MANY thanks. (At the expense of my embarrassed ego) I've lived with this for almost a year or so. The problem was quite similar. The menu was in a different language, and the pictures were all out of alignment, etc. If I tried to change it to "English," it would lock the controls. I've been able to unlock it easily enough, and since it started, I've learned to use the menu just by the "new" graphics alone. I finally got the urge to figure it out once and for all, and you guys have been a great help. Just for the record, because I know everyone seems to be doing it differently, I brought up the OSD (menu button), and then held down the Reset button (bottom left corner of the monitor) for about 5 seconds. Like you guys said, it flickered about twice, and then the menu was back in English again! Much appreciated.
I wonder how it is that we (you) figured it out, but all Dell had to say was that we should buy a new monitor. I'm sure by now they're quite aware of the problem. Do they *still* not know about the solution?
Anyway, good luck to everyone else out there, I hope you have as much luck as I did. Now the next problem: the screen does this wave effect thing near the top of the screen, for (and I need to emphasize this) ONLY one of the games I play. Anyway, that belongs in another thread. Again, good luck to everyone else, and thanks again.
The problem I have is whenever I try pressing the reset button i get the little green key sign. When I open the menu i can only toggle between the exit and the bottom right corner option which i don't know what it is. i opened the menu as some suggested and then whenever i press the reset i always get the little green key.
my arrow keys don't work at all, except when at first i press menu any of them take me to the bottom right corner icon and thats it.
I just signed up for an account on the forums here to give a personal thanks to Horus_200 and Kenbatt, Horus_200's description unlocked my OSD and Kenbatt's solution returned my menu's to English. It's sad that such a wide range of older Dell monitors have this bug, especially seeing as they are good monitors :\
I want to thank both Horus_200 and Kenbatt, as well as the others in this forum for helping me with the same problem. I originally thought my D1025TM problem with the OSD was caused from upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP, since that's when the problem began. But after reading through the numerous posts on this same problem it's obvious there is a bug with the monitor.
Again, thank you Horus_200 and Kenbatt for your valuable insight.
I also experienced the same thing. I believe the trick may be to do the button combinations as quickly as possible. If I hesitated 3 or 4 seconds I too would get the little green key in the lower left corner, or a small monitor information display would appear.
I also believe that depending on the cause of the monitor's OSD becoming locked, the remedy could require a slightly different button combination or length of time to hold them.
Try method mentioned in the post of Horus_200 (8/21/2002) holding the buttons, but don't hesitate when selecting them. Good luck!
viper2 and bentnail -- I have the exact same problem and cannot find a remedy. If I try to bring up the menu button then press the reset button the green key just comes up. Also I can't get the the bottom left hand corner of the menu either.
I can't believe dell has not posted anything on this with so many complaints out there.

Hello Horus_200
You will notice that I have a similar problem to which no one has replied. In trying to get a solution I came to this URL which you might check:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
It did not work for me, but you may have a better response.

Thank you for using the DellTalk Forum.
Try holding the osd button in for 10 to 15 seconds to see if that will unlock the controls.
