Hmm..I have sthe same model, and my power adapter seems fine. I also get the same battery message as you though, and I get a message saying the power adapter could not be determined and the battery may not charge. I just ignore this message because i dun think ne thing shuld b wrong as I am using my Dell charger. Your lucky to only have an adapter problem! My screen just broke by itself..its really annoying off

Hi,

I've had my 1530 since February. When I received it, one of the first things I noticed was how much play there was in the power connection. Far more play than my previous (Toshiba) laptop. It hasn't proven to be a problem, however. Also, I haven't seen any battery related errors so far. Is it possible that your battey developed a seating problem during shipment?

Yeah I just assumed the message was a one off fault and that if I just continued it may fix itself and it seems to as the message has not appeared since on startup.

But my ac connection just seems to be able to move up and down slightly more than I would of thought it could.

Yeah this is the only problem I have had i'm glad I haven't had anything serious go wrong! :s

Yeah i thought that that might be the case. I just wasn't sure.

Yeah sounds like this seating problem could of been the problem that caused me to get the error message

Thanks!

There are two problems with Dell power supplies. The first is the not-so-tight plug. This can get worse if you "lean" on the plug. The second is the little wire pin inside the plug. This is not a power connection, but a lead that tells the computer which Dell power supply is attached. If this connection becomes bad, you will get these warnings. Make sure the little wire is not bent or broken off. If it seems OK and you get warnings, then you will need to replace the supply. I am not sure why the supply fails to connect when the wire seems OK; there may be something broken inside the plug itself.

I recently got a new XPS 17 laptop, and the first thing I noticed was the floppy connection where the adapter plugs into the back.  I own 2 other Dell laptops and both of them have nice tight connections.  Why does it not fit better???

Also, the fit is so loose that several times it has either backed out far enough to  disconnect, and I get the "if you want to continue, plug in the power cord...etc."  While not a major issue I wouldn't expect this in a brand new laptop.

Same problem here on a new XPS 17... loose enough that it has fallen out several times. I've had several Dell laptops and I have never had this problem before.  I've put in a ticket to support, we'll see what happens.
